AMD Radeon VII: world’s first 7nm gaming GPU now available

AMD announced availability of the world’s first 7nm gaming graphics card, the Radeon VII, bringing exceptional performance and amazing experiences for the latest AAA, eSports and VR titles, demanding 3D rendering and video applications, as well as next-gen compute workloads.

Built on the enhanced second-generation Vega architecture, the Radeon VII provides 2X the memory and 2.1X the memory bandwidth compared to the Radeon RX Vega 64. Enabling maximum settings for extreme framerates at the highest resolutions, the Radeon VII provides seamless, high-refresh HDR gaming at 1080p, ultrawide 1440p and 4K, while propelling next-generation photo and visual creation applications on vibrant 8K monitors.

Designed for gamers, creators and enthusiasts, key features of Radeon VII include:

  • 60 compute units, 3,840 stream processors and clocks up to 1,750 MHz drive high-performance gaming and hyper-realistic images.
  • 16GB HMB2 with 1 TB/s memory bandwidth and a 4,096-bit memory interface enable ultra-high resolution textures, hyper-realistic settings and life-like characters.
  • Exceptional DirectX 12 and Vulkan performance, including improvements of 35 percent in Battlefield V and 42 percent in Strange Brigade compared to the Radeon Vega 64.
  • Performance to drive 3D rendering, video editing applications and next-generation compute workloads, including up to 27 percent higher performance in Blender, up to 27 percent higher performance in DaVinci Resolve 15 and up to 62 percent higher performance in the LuxMark benchmark compared to Radeon Vega 64.
  • As the world’s largest ecosystem of adaptive sync gaming display technology, Radeon FreeSync offers more than 550 supported displays, delivering smooth, stutter-free gaming at every price point. Radeon FreeSync 2 HDR offers more than 2X better brightness and color volume compared to sRGB.

Ubisoft

“As we strive to create more visually complex and immersive worlds for gamers, we’ll need an increasing amount of memory capacity as well as computational horsepower to bring these adventures to life. This is why, for elite PC specs, we’re recommending 11GB of GPU memory for Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2, to make sure gamers have the best possible experience,” said David Polfeldt, Managing Director at Massive Entertainment, a Ubisoft Studio. “With world class performance and double the memory of existing GPUs, Radeon VII unlocks incredible new lifelike visuals for the latest games today and well into the future.”

Blackmagic Design

“Blackmagic Design recently introduced Fusion visual effects tools into DaVinci Resolve 15, which was specifically designed to enhance the collaboration of complex feature films by our Hollywood customers,” said Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design. “However, to get the advantage of integrated editing, color correction, audio post production and visual effects tools all in the one software tool, we need as much GPU power as we can get. The problem gets even worse with new 8K workflows used in feature films. This means the new Radeon VII graphics card provides the power we need and as it has massive processing power and extremely fast memory bandwidth, perfect for high resolution work. It's a new era for image processing and we are very excited.”

Radeon VII is now available $699 SEP USD. With AMD’s Raise the Game Fully Loaded bundle, gamers who purchase a Radeon VII or Radeon VII powered PC will receive complimentary PC versions of Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 5 and The Division 2, three of 2019’s most anticipated titles.

What good is a world first, if it sucks?

PS - not an Nvidia Fanboy either, but at $699USD with performance sometimes rivalled by a 2070, It's a hard pass. Guess we'll see if drivers help. I know a lot of people were hoping for performance in between the 2080 and 2080ti with good overclocking headroom (on account of the die shrink). I guess there's always Polaris Vega Navi Arcturus?

I recall AMD said they'd have stock on release day. I don't believe they ever claimed they would have stock the day after release day.

Anyhow by the time I finished reading Hilbert's review the AMD site had stock and I placed my order.

Still it would be interesting to know just how many cards they actually had for sale.

Great card but too many retailers are taking the piss
$699 RRP is £539.41
The price ranges I have seen for Sapphire, Powercolour, AsRock, Asus, Gigabyte are
£649.99
£698.99
£749.99
£799.99

And they are all the same reference design of course you'd be best to go for the cheapest one you can find since there is no difference between the brands but all the prices are taking the piss in the UK
I'm sure it's the same every where else since this $h1t has been going on for a few years now, since the GAMER craze. Upped prices for something called GAMER.
