SSD Performance HD Tune PRO

HD Tune Pro

A new test added to the benchmark suit is HD Tune Pro, this was actually a user request which we are more than happy to comply with. Tune Pro is a hard disk utility and benchmarking utility for Windows. This tiny application allows you to scan your hard drives in search for errors or take a deeper look at several performance figured coming from the storage unit.

So here we measure linear read performance of the SSD and as you can see we average out at roughly 217 MB/sec, decent performance you'll agree with me but not enough. Your Average HDD would do 45-65 MB/sec here, with a WD VelociRaptor topping is off just over 100~120 MB/sec. We had a few minor drop offs, that might actually the OS trying to access the drive during our test. Nothing important though.

Write performance always paints a different picture. Once we start to measure write performance we see figures reach a continued write performance averaging out at roughly 191 MB/sec with peaks to ~ 208 MB/sec.

The latest edition of HD Tune Pro allows random access read and write testing, a feature not available to other software tools. And this is certainly interesting to observe.

Overall good, though the random IOPS performance seems a little on the low side. This benchmark unfortunately is not a precise measurement. Each run differs a little with fluctuation up-to 10-20%. Therefore we run it three times and use the last score.

We tested this ate several systems and the 4KB IOPS mark is not fast enough for my taste.

In the write performance run things fluctuated very much. Jumping from a good 15k IOPS / 4KB to below 9k IOPS / 4KB on the the second run. A drive wipe could not fix this issue. Likely a small firmware issue.
