Power Consumption

For the third and final series of tests we look at power consumption. It's a hot topic these days and well, we measure in a 10M distance setup. We measure this at wall socket side with the help of a WattsUp power monitor which can measure in a tenth of a Watt precise. This device measures in-between the wall socket and router.

Above power consumption while we transmit from the laptop towards a client side PC. Wireless is obviously one of the more power consuming features to use. Roughly 11~12 Watts for the WRT1900AC. We find that to be a quite a lot.

NAS Performance

With the help of USB 3.0 you get a very fast connection on the router. Sicne the router allows you to share the files on external storage, the router basucally functions as a NAS. So we figured it would be nice to observe how fast USB 3.0 is on these routers:

The WRT1900AC's NAS performance is actually very impressive. When couple with a portable drive (SSD based in our case) connected to its USB 3.0 port via a gigabit connection, the router shows a sustained WRITE speed of 75MBps and it even reached just over 100MBps for READ performance. This is performance bar none, excellent. That is even faster than many expensive dedicated NAS servers.

Linksys WRT1900AC Router review
We review the Linksys WRT1900AC Dual Band Wi-Fi Router from Belkin, this dual-core processor monster of a router recently was introduced. This product surely brings the nostalgia of the old WRT54G back to the table as the design is very similar. But make no mistake, the new Linksys WRT1900AC is very fast, very sexy and offers incredible performance and range on both LAN and WIFI.
