It's OK to OC
Traditional overclocking - As most of you know, with most video cards you can apply a simple series of tricks to boost the overall performance a little. Typically you can tweak on core clock frequencies and voltages. By increasing the frequency of the videocard's memory and GPU, we can make the videocard increase its clock cycles per second.

Original | This sample | Overclocked |
Core Clock: 1392 MHz | Core Clock: 1433 MHz | Core Clock: 1490 MHz |
Boost Clock: 1518 MHz | Boost Clock: 1582 MHz | Max Boost Clock: ~1975 MHz |
Memory Clock: 7.0 GHz | Memory Clock: 7.0 GHz | Memory Clock: 7.5 GHz |
If anything, tweaking and overclocking has become more complicated starting with Pascal. You'll see that most cards out there all will tweak to roughly the same levels due to all kinds of hardware protection kicking in. Given the early stage sample, we had no active voltage control. We applied the following settings:
- Core Voltage : -
- Power Limit: 100 %
- Temp. limit: 90C
- Core Clock : + 150
- Memory Clock: +265MHz
- Fan speed 65% (= silent)
Above, the relative performance difference between a reference card, the AIB card with its respective applied tweak and our overclocked results plotted in percentages. To the far right where you can see "Aver Difference %", this is the result of the four games tested and averaged out. Once we manually tweak the card manually it is roughly 17% faster compared to the (baseline 2GB) reference clocked performance and 8% faster compared towards the default clocks of this 3GB card.
