Going first base with the GPUs

To properly understand the technology in this Galaxy GeForce 7900GT Dual Core card we must first understand what kind of specifications the reference GeForce 7900 GT has and what the cores and memory of this product are clocked on. We need to compare.

A little 101 on the GeForce 7900 GT graphics processor. Back in March 2006 NVIDIA launched a new very price competitive videocard at 300 USD. A G71 graphics core based product, the GeForce 7900 GT. This is the slower version of big daddy GTX. This product has the very same pixel pipelines and vertex processors as the GTX, in fact it's 100% the same chip yet it's clocked significantly slower at 450 MHz and is equipped with gDDR3 memory running at 1320 MHz (2x 660 MHz). The framebuffer also went down towards 256 MB. Now if you look at the chart on this page you'll notice that the MasterPiece product is clocked significantly faster, in fact it is almost running at GTX speeds.

So here we have a solution that offers an incredible amount of bang for your bucks.

The Galaxy GeForce 7900GT Dual Core product has two of these GPU's each linked towards 512MB of memory. The clocks however are much faster as the 7900 GT GPU's are clocked at 607 MHz on it's core and the card comes with 2x 512MB gDDR3 memory clocked at 1520 MHz. Difficult to position and understand ?

Hey luckily for you you're on Guru3D.com, we just love to explain. Let's have a look at the some product specifications and compare them to understand where the differences are to be found.

GeForce 6200 4 3 64/128-bit GDDR/128MB/256MB 300MHz 275(550)

Now if you look at the chart above you'll notice that the Galaxy GeForce 7900GT Dual Core is a very beefed up product. If you look at the clocks of a single core it places itself above the all new 7950 GT product yet slightly below the 7900 GTX, which is mighty impressive especially when you consider you have two cores at your disposal :)

Per graphic core:

  • 8 Vertex Shading Units
  • 24 Pixel pipelines
  • 2x512MB 256-bit 1.4ns (8x32) GDDR3 Memory

Generic Functions

  • PCI Express x16 Compatibility (PCI Express Compliant)
  • Integrated NVIDIA TV Encoder (HDTV, S-Video, Composite,)
  • Integrated NVIDIA VIVO (S-Video, Composite,)
  • Dual DVI-I Connectors
  • NVIDIA PureVideo Technology
  • DVD + HDTV Decode assist up to 1920x1080p resolution
  • Integrated Dual 400MHz RAMDACs
  • Two Dual Link TMDS DVI Connector
  • NVIDIA Digital Vibrance Control (DVC) 3.0
  • Support for Microsoft Video Mixer Renderer (VMR)
  • Advanced adaptive de-interlacing

What you need to be comparing to the most is the 7900 GTX 512MB product .. times two. The cores each have 24 pixel shader processors, eight vertex units, 16 ROPS; in short, this is the 0.09 micron G71 graphics core (times two).
