Testing the mouse

Reviewing a mouse is a bit tricky (almost like with audio devices) as this matter is quite subjective. My daily mouse is a Logitech G902 (which is wireless), and that’s my benchmark, and you also need to remember that I have very big palms (as I’m 6.7”). That said, I really enjoyed the experience with the NIGHTSWORD RGB. It is quite light (119g), but still quite massive (even a bit bigger in size compared with the G902), so it’s more than good enough for my hands, and should be satisfying for most users. The design is very good here. The shape, contours, and layout of the design deliver stress-free ergonomics. The chassis is made of plastic, but I didn’t notice any mouse squeaks, creaks, or rattles during normal or even extended use.

The polling rate is another aspect of the mouse that we decided to check. During typical use, we did not notice any problems with data transmission consistency. The average is just perfect: 1000 Hz as declared.

The acceleration test is the most important step in checking the mouse, and we did not find even the smallest manifestation of this issue in the NIGHTSWORD RGB. This is great news for all players.

In Enotus Mouse Test, the polling, max speed, and precision results were just excellent.

For gaming tests, I’ve used:

  • PUBG,
  • Battlefield 1,
  • DOTA 2
  • Call of Duty: WW2

These games require not only patience but also the precision of movement. The Corsair NIGHTSWORD RGB did an excellent job here. The LMB and RMB are tight and responsive, and each is rated for around 50m+ clicks. Pretty much what we’ve come to expect from Omron switches really. It didn’t matter if the game was fast paced or slow and methodical; the NIGHTSWORD felt like a natural extension of my right hand. Movements registered as they should, and they were sharp and expressive. We did not encounter any undesirable phenomena (such as the pointer moving by itself) in the tests or when gaming. In FPS games, I was able to quickly get used to the NIGHTSWORD’s shape and weight (which is quite low at default - 119 g), with this nimble mouse happy to be thrown around for both flick-shots and controlled movement. Roaming around the map was smooth, and locking my crosshairs onto enemy soldiers was easy. DOTA 2, with its quick skirmishes and reliance on using numerous skills and objects, is ideal for checking the additional functions of the mouse, such as the extra buttons and macros. DPI selection works nicely, and luckily there are two dedicated buttons for that, and the same goes for the profiles (God bless Corsair for that). The mouse is very responsive and does the things you “order” it to.

The rubberized side and top grip areas make the mouse more comfortable to use. The top of the mouse’s shell is quite pleasant to the touch and provides a lot of grip even with slightly moist hands. The buttons are fairly placed for medium to large-handed users.
