The K95 PLATINUM XT comes with either Cherry MX Speed/Brown/Blue switches. We had the former in the reviewed sample. The actuation force is 45 cN, like in Reds, and pre-travel is 1.2 mm. Cherry MX RGB Silver Speed are definitely not the quietest switches around. They can be reasonably quiet if you press them really softly, but it’s not that easy to do. A quiet keyboard would be useful, especially for typing or gaming at night. Luckily, my computer is not close to the bedroom, because the K95 PLATINUM XT can get quite noisy in the heat of the battle.

We have tested the K95 RGB PLATINUM XT during many hours of typing and gaming. In games like Starcraft 2, PUBG, Battlefield 1, Call of Duty: WW2 or even DiRT: Rally, the keyboard responded to my actions very quickly and very accurately, there's nothing to be desired. Precision is one of the reasons why people buy mechanical keyboards, and there’s no shortage of it here. The device does not creak, does not have dented surfaces or joints bending under the influence of force. The option to record macros may come in handy in several contexts. It’s also worth noting that there are six dedicated macro keys (switchable to dedicated Elgato caps). Another thing I liked was the profile-selector button, which lets you access settings for other games in a matter of seconds.

The keyboard passed the N-Key rollover test without any hiccups. Anti-Ghosting technology serves its purpose great. I didn’t get any missed keystrokes when typing, either. The ergonomics are simply excellent, and the (very comfy) wrist rest makes the K95 PLATINUM XT perfect even for very long sessions. Some people may not like it (but I really adored it), but it’s removable, so no issue here. The space bar has a diamond-plate texture, and this is a nice feature - more grip is always appreciated. The lighting is not annoying in the dark, and you can disable it completely if you prefer. Media keys and a volume roll are always welcome, and I found them useful several times, especially the roller (why does anyone still make keyboards without them?). USB pass-through is a good idea, although 2 ports would have been more appreciated.
