Final Words & Conclusion

One of the richest micro PCs we have tried, the Beelink GTR6 does come recommended by us. It is robustness makes it suitable for simple games and normal PC use. Let's recap, though. The GTR6 is powered by an AMD Ryzen R9 6900HX processor, which is an 8-core, 16-thread processor running upwards to 4.9 GHz. Furthermore, the GPU is a powerful Radeon 680M (RDNA 2) with a clock speed of up to 2.4GHz. The mini PC supports two M.2 SSDs NVMe and one SATA III SSD. It has four HDMI video ports and supports 8K 60Hz. It has a fairly luxurious 32 GB of DDR5 4800Mhz dual channel memory and super fast 500 GB Kingston PCIe4.0 SSD (read speed up to 7000MB/s!). One of the most challenging aspects of mini computers is heat dissipation; the GTR6 does use patent cooling technology for improved thermals however, under load does become moderately noisy. Furthermore impressive are four HDMI connections that can broadcast up to 8K at 60 Hz, making it the best video player. Lacking though is Displayport. 

Overall we feel there are two negatives; the multi-threaded performance isn't where it could be. The 5900HX outperforms the 6900HX in this unit anytime. Single-threaded performance is a notch faster, though. After investigating the BIOS we noticed that the mini PC was configured at a 35W power state, 45W can also be enabled, bringing in a notch more performance.  Luckily the BIOS does offer a slew of options to tweak power states a bit further. 

Secondly, what inconvenienced me to some degree were fan acoustics. The unit makes use of two small 2600 RPM fans. While in idle, you're looking at 34~35 DBa; but under full stress, it reaches 39~40 DBa at higher pitch noises. These are compared to, say, an older laptop that you can hear. Some are bothered by this, others none whatsoever.

 Performance

Everyday tasks such as working on office applications, browsing the web, and watching videos (even in 4k/8k) run smoothly. It also works wonderfully for photoshopping still images. WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 make up its reliable and swift wireless connectivity; the super-fast NVMe SSD also helps out at 7 GB/sec here. The processor is plenty fast, but in multi-threaded performance, not as fast as the 5900HX. The thermal settings and PL states have been tweaked a bit to prevent it from heating up too much.  The IGP is pretty incredible. With performance about 60 per cent faster than the last gen Radeon RX Vega 8 in the previous generation Ryzen 9 5900HX, the Radeon 680M impresses. By this measure, the new integrated AMD GPU is at least 50% faster than anything based on Intel's Iris Xe 96 EUs architecture. The 680M is outstanding for an integrated GPU, yet it still lags below dedicated low-end GPUs like the GeForce GTX 1060 or GTX 1650. But a quick game of Cyberpunk 2077 showed it could be played with low to medium settings (1080p).

Concluding

The Beelink GTR6 will be available as a barebone tiny PC or as a complete system with added 32GB RAM and a super fast 512GB SSD pre-loaded with Windows 11 Pro. The unit is plenty fast for your everyday needs and allows it to be used to play games in Full HD with low to medium image quality settings quite well. The most significant negative was the noise level, we expected better. When CPU load jumps up, you'll hear the unit as it nears 40 DBa at a high pitch sound due to very small fans being used. As explained to visualize a little, this sounds like an older laptop.

Compared to the previous model, the biggest change is the IGP. The GTR6's integrated graphics are the key reason to upgrade from the GTR5. The processing performance of the Zen 3+ Ryzen 9 6900HX is marginally better than that of the Ryzen 9 5900HX, and the multi-threaded performance was even a notch lower. The GTR6 could be a good investment if you want to play simple games if you're on the move or perform other jobs that require a more powerful integrated graphics unit. Note worthy points:

• WiFi: Triple Bands WIFI 6E 160MHZ.
• HDMI ports support Quad Screens 8K display@60hz

The GTR6 costs 750 USD / 719 EUR at the time of writing but comes with a fantastic 32GB memory (RAM), blazing fast storage (500GB NVMe SSD), an activated operating system (Windows 11 Pro), the processor (CPU), and that integrated graphics processing unit (GPU). Beelink also has a $540 barebones SKU that does not have any memory or storage. Currently, at the time of writing, we're in December, and we've seen deals on 20% lower prices already.
