BasemarkGPU D3D12 and Vulkan render performance review
Thirty-six graphics cards tested

Article updated with recently released graphics cards (20/9/21)

There is a refreshed benchmark in town, fabbed and founded by ex-Futuremark employees BasemarkGPU has been released in an aim to measure GPU on many platforms, Windows, Android, IOS, Linux and so on. With enhancements, Basemark GPU is uniquely a multi-platform benchmark. It is a product enabling direct comparisons e.g. between Android smartphones and iPhones, Windows, Linux and MacOS desktops and notebooks as well as APIs, Metal, Vulkan, DirectX, OpenGL and OpenGL ES.

While this article will show you some numbers on Windows 10 GPUs (as really that's our cup of tea). You yourself will be able to compare practically every smartphone, tablet, PC and laptop against each other. Basemark GPU 1.2 is ready and is a multiplatform benchmark. Basemark GPU is an evaluation tool to analyze and measure graphics API (OpenGL 4.5, OpenGL ES 3.1, Vulkan 1.0, Microsoft DirectX 12 and Apple Metal 2) performance across mobile and desktop platforms. Performance is measured using an advanced, game-like workload. Basemark GPU as such Basemarks GPU targets to both Desktop and Mobile platforms by providing High Quality, Medium Quality and Simple Quality modes;

  • High Quality addresses common AAA Desktop workloads
  • Medium Quality is a stripped-down version of High, suitable for laptops and powerful mobile devices like premium smartphones
  • Simple Quality is built especially for embedded devices and entry-level smartphones

In this article we'll stay focused at the Windows 10 platform with dedicated GPUs though, we'll test over twenty of graphics cards, and see what that brings us in performance as we can measure OpenGL, DirectX 12 and Vulkan, which is a nice option to look into from an API comparing perspective, and also the most relevant to the Guru3D reader base.
