Let's start with our photo-shoot. Two pages worth of photos then and all of them from our own photo-shoot.

So as you can see, this is the ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 980 Matrix Platinum. Keep in mind that we test the Matrix model specifically, which comes with a faster standard clock frequency. A DIGI+ VRM has been assigned together with a strong 14-phases. The product is a flagship SKU aimed at pro-overclockers with LN2 / sub-zero cooling in mind. Interesting is though that for the handful of LN2 overclockers ASUS added an ASUS-exclusive "defroster" circuit, which is a trace running through key areas of the card, which heats up, preventing frost and damp condensation on the card.

Regardless of pro-overclockers, the card can be used by us regular folk as well, it has been equipped with a proper DirectCUII based cooler. The ROG MATRIX GTX 980 Platinum does feature the GM204-400-A1 core that features 2048 CUDA Cores, 128 texture mapping units and 64 ROPs.

The card PCB is 28cm in length and 29 cm with the cooler included. This Matrix Platinum series has higher factory clocks, the GPU core base clock is ticking over at a 1241 MHz core GPU clock frequency with a 1342 MHz Boost frequency.

The memory has been kept reference at 7.0 GHz (effective data-rate) on its 256-bit wide memory bus of 4 GB GDDR5 memory.

It is a pretty looking design alright, even the heatpipes and radiator are colored black.
