X99 will bring a whopping 10-port SATA 6 Gb/s storage controller supporting RAID RST and SRT and SSD TRIM on RAID 0 configurations. SATA Express is supported. In total you will have 10 SATA3, 1 Ultra M.2 (PCIe Gen3 x4). The two buttons above (lower left corner) are power and reset buttons. To the left of the CPU socket you can see a Molex connector, this is an extra PCIe power connector so you can add some more juice to the graphics cards.

Make note of all the USB lovin' you will receive. 10 USB 3.0 (4 Front, 6 Rear), 7 USB 2.0 (4 Front, 1 Back, 1 Mouse Port, 1 Vertical Type A).   The micro button is a CLEAR CMOS switch.

Onboard you will spot 2 x USB 2.0 Headers (supports 4 USB 2.0 ports). 1 x Vertical Type A USB 2.0
2 x USB 3.0 Headers (Supports 4 USB 3.0 ports). The USB7 or vertical USB port is Vertical Type A USB, there is nothing special about it other than that it is a convenient alternative port for users to quickly plug in devices.

To the far right you can see a Diagnostic post LED, it will display the status/post code. In the manual you will find an overview of the status codes, so should your system hang at the post phase, you can quickly tell what part of the system is having issues (e.g. a memory overclock).

You will get eight DIMM slots offer support for quad-channel DDR4 memory up to even 3400 MHz (OC). You can install a maximum of 128 GB in total. XMP 2.0 is supported. Interesting fact, if you pop on a compatible Xeon processor, this motherboard will support DDR4 ECC and RDIMM (Registered DIMM) memory modules which deliver server-grade stability and durability on said computing systems.
