Review 567 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Gelid is a company that made a nice impression a year or two ago introducing themselves by releasing their first aftermarket CPU cooler, the 'Silent Spirit' cooler. After Gelid released that Silent Spirit and then Tranqillo CPU coolers it was time for a new model.

Progress is made and anno Q4 2011 it's time to release their third consumer grade CPU cooler. Their latest creation comes in the form of a tower cooler called GX-7 -- aimed at gamers apparently.

Intel Releases SSD Toolbox 3.0 Software

Download 370 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Intel released the Solid-State Drive Toolbox 3.0 system software, which it recommends for use with its SSDs. SSDs have a limited number of times they can rewrite data onto their NAND flash cells. The most common 20-nanometer class MLC NAND flash offers around 5,000 rewrite cycles.

This software monitors your Intel SSD for performance degradation, and provides a measure of how many rewrite cycles are left, so you can plan beforehand about backing up your data and replacing it. The software also provides a suite of diagnostics for your Intel SSD. Lastly, the software can update your drive's firmware without the need for a DOS bootable disk.

Thanks Watcher for reporting this one. Grab the toolbox here.

AMD FX Record Broken at 8461 MHz

Processor 721 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Earlier on in the month we already reported that AMD overclocked its FX processor slightly over 8000 MHz (on LN2).

That got them into the Guinness Records

Overclocker Andre Yang now breaks the record with 8461.51 MHz. According to the validation page, 8461.51 MHz was achieved using a base clock speed of 272.95 MHz, with 31.0X multiplier, and a brutal core voltage of 1.992V (almost 2 volts!). As with AMD's record feat, an ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard was used. A single 2 GB Corsair-made memory module was used doing 909.8 MHz (1818.16 MHz DDR) with timings of 9-9-9-24T. Like with AMD's feat, only two out of the FX-8150's eight cores were enabled.
