Download 370 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Guru3D and MSI have been working hard on AfterBurner, today we release an updated  Beta  revision of Afterburner, this application successfully secured the leading position on graphics card utilities.

We're happy to see MSI Afterburner is leading the overclock applications, but where satisfied with what we have now, we plan to go one step beyond everybody!

MSI Afterburner 2.1.0 Beta 7 is ready, changes list includes:

  • the official support of GTX 560 Ti / GT 440.
  • Now Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 runtime libraries are included in distributive
  • Hardware database is now configured to force fan duty cycle monitoring to be performed via slower AMD ADL SDK path on AMD RADEON 4870 X2 and 5790 series cards
  • Changed way of unlocking unofficial overclocking on AMD graphics cards to make overclocking newbies think harder before enabling this functionality blindly and coming to support forums with fake bugreports
  • Added alternate unofficial overclocking path allowing keeping PowerPlay active on some modern ASIC families during overclocking
  • Fan control settings are now being forcibly reapplied after changing the clocks via unofficial overclocking path to bypass bug in AMD driver causin the fan control settings to be reset to defaults after programming PowerPlay table

To enable unofficial overclocking in this version it is necessary to:

  • Set UnofficialOverclockingEULA field to the following text: I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
  • Set UnofficialOverclockingMode to 1 to keep PowerPlay active (may not work on old ASICs), 2 to traditionally disable PowerPlay or to 0 to temporary disable unofficial overclocking path

Radeon HD 6950 1GB vs GeForce GTX 560 Ti review

Review 567 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

When the GeForce GTX 560 Ti was released shortly ago, one things was clear - the price versus performance ratio would be great. Especially with the extensive factory overclocked models in mind these cards perform really well. So a couple of weeks ago AMD decided to sort of 'Ambush' NVIDIA, by releasing a 1 GB version of the Radeon HD 6950, a product with the very same features and specifications as it's big brother the 2 GB version has yet priced way below we all expected it to be.

We'll address power consumption, heat and noise levels and then put both cards to the test. Check out the full article here.

Microsoft Warns on New Windows Zero-Day Vunerability

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Microsoft released a security advisory on Friday warning users to watch out for a newly disclosed vulnerability in all versions of Windows, one that takes advantage of a common method of transferring media types in email messages. The hole, called the MHTML protocol handler, is located in a part of all supported versions of Windows, including XP Service Pack 3.

By luring a user to visit a malicious site and click on a booby-trapped link, an attack program could send the handler a poisoned script. While the result of a successful attack on a user would only be to enable "unintended information disclosure" -- rather than compromise the entire system -- the fact that proof-of-concept code and discussions of the hole have already been posted on the Internet raises the urgency level for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) to warn security professionals pronto. The advisory provides a client-side workaround. Additionally, the company said it is working on a patch.
