Some performance results

Of course at Guru3D.com we always think ahead and therefore pulled some numbers for you to compare with. The hardware being used:

Mainboard

Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI motherboard, nForce4 SLI, Socket 939

Processor

AMD Athlon 64 FX-57, Socket 939

Graphics Cards

Radeon X800 GTO (PCX) 256 MB
Radeon X850 XT (PCX) 256 MB
Radeon X1600 XT (PCX) 256 MB
Radeon X1800 XL (PCX) 256 MB
Radeon X1800 XT (PCX) 512 MB

GeForce 6800 (PCX) 128 MB
GeForce 6600 GT (PCX) 128 MB
GeForce 6800 GT (PCX) 256 MB
GeForce 6800 GT (PCX) 256 MB SLI
GeForce 7800 GTX 256 MB
GeForce 7800 GTX 512 MB

Memory

2048 MB (2x1024MB) DDR1 - PC-3200 2-3-3-6

Software

Windows XP Professional SP2
NVIDIA nForce4 Platform Driver 6.39
DirectX 9.0c End User Runtime
ForceWare 81.85 WHQL
Catalyst 5.12
RivaTuner 2.0 (tweak utility)

The tests are being done at default 3DMark06 settings. That's already heavy enough on the hardware ;)

Since the results can be a tad hard to read in the flash chart above as there are a so many cards in there so below you can find the raw data.

3DMark06

Score

SM 2.0

SM 3.0 CPU
Radeon x800GTO 256MB 1405 690 0 1101
GeForce 6600 GT 128MB 1618 645 561 1100
GeForce 6800 128 MB 1854 720 681 1106
Radeon X850 XT 256MB 2136 1096 0 1102
Radeon X1600 XT 256MB 2264 869 885 1111
GeForce 6800 GT 256MB 2404 982 899 1102
Radeon X1800 XL 256MB 3191 1290 1333 1110
Radeon X1800 XT 512MB 3747 1557 1637 1112
GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB 4001 1740 1727 1103
GeForce 6800 GT 256MB SLI 4096 1887 1696 1104
GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB 4787 2176 2220 1107

So now you have something to compare to. Of course with the Radeon x800 GTO and X850 XT you'll notice a "0" score at the Shader model 3 result. These two cards simply do not have support for SM3.

3DMark06 review
Last year when 3DMark 05 was released (February I think) it became the standard for DirectX 9 benchmarking and it was well received by the consumer and industry. In the months following I however honestly felt the benchmark was good but not yet perfect as some very important features where left out. 3DMark06 entails all the new features and we will take a brief look at this exciting new update of the software. I say update because in essence 3Dmark06 is 3Dmark05, with a complete overhaul of features and exciting end-result.
