Western Digital has expanded its product lineup with the introduction of a 24TB WD Red Pro mechanical hard drive, designed specifically for NAS (Network Attached Storage) applications. This release follows the company's earlier launch of a 24TB model targeted at enterprise and data center use, marking the entry of its highest capacity CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording) hard drive into the NAS segment. The 24TB WD Red Pro hard drive is engineered to meet the demands of commercial and enterprise-level NAS systems that operate continuously and are accessed by multiple users. It features a workload rating of 550TB/year, a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 2.5 million hours, and comes with a five-year warranty, emphasizing its reliability and durability.

Equipped with a vibration compensation system and RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) error recovery control, the hard drive aims to minimize failure rates in environments with multiple bays configured in a RAID setup. With a rotational speed of 7200 RPM and a 512MB OptiNAND cache, this model offers a data transfer rate of 287MB/s, an improvement over the 265MB/s rate of its 22TB predecessor, making it one of the fastest in its series. The introduction of this 24TB WD Red Pro hard drive by Western Digital competes directly with Seagate's similar offering in the "Cool Wolf Pro" series, also designed for NAS applications and released earlier in the year.
