Valve has announced the release of an updated version of its Steam Deck, now equipped with a 7.4-inch OLED display that supports HDR. This new model retains the same 6nm AMD APU, known as "Sephiroth," which matches the performance specifications of the previous model. In a technical upgrade, the device now utilizes faster LPDDR5 memory with a speed of 6400 MT/s.

The OLED Steam Deck features several technical improvements, including an enhanced Wi-Fi 6E interface that operates across 2.4/5.0/6.0 GHz frequencies and complies with a wide range of IEEE 802.11 standards (a/b/g/n/ac/ax). Additionally, it houses a more substantial 50 Whr battery while achieving a 5% reduction in weight, amounting to 30 grams less than the former version, and is designed to generate less heat. The display resolution remains at 1280×800, but the OLED screen offers a peak brightness of 1000 units for HDR content and 600 nits for SDR, with the panel refresh rate at 90Hz and providing 110% coverage of the P3 color gamut. Valve has noted that the new screen is also expected to be more energy-efficient, consuming approximately half the power.

The cooling system in the OLED model has been upgraded with a thicker heatsink and a reconfigured fan setup, which is reported to operate more quietly and efficiently, reducing the overall heat output.

Storage options have been expanded, with a new 1TB version, which is likely to take over the 512GB model's price point of $649. Price adjustments have also been made across the range, with the 512GB OLED model set to retail for $549, and the previous 512GB LCD model's price reduced to $449. The 256GB LCD version's new price is $399, and the 64GB base model will now be available for $349. Valve confirms that the Steam Deck OLED will maintain compatibility with accessories from the original LCD model. Moreover, a Limited Edition with a distinctive translucent design will also be offered. The launch of the OLED Steam Deck is scheduled for November 16.
