Seasonic has introduced a new modular PSU cable compatible with the ATX 3.1 standard and the 12V-2x6 connector. This development addresses the limitations of the previous 12VHPWR standard, notably its vulnerability to burn-out due to contact issues. The new cable design is part of the ATX 3.1 specification, initiated in response to Intel identifying the need for improvements over the 12VHPWR standard. The implementation of this new connector is relatively simple for modular PSU manufacturers.

They can now provide a cable that links the 12VHPWR connector on the PSU's backplane to a 12V-2x6 connector. As a leading power supply OEM, Seasonic offers these cables free, with the stipulation of participating in their "Beta Tester Program."

This program's specifics, including terms and conditions, are not fully disclosed but are expected to include a liability waiver. This implies that users take responsibility for any potential damages incurred while using the cable. The cable itself features 16-AWG wires and a connector designed with a 90° alignment, ensuring reliable mechanical stability. It supports a continuous power output of 600 W, representing a significant enhancement over the older standard.
