Intel is still working on resolving the periodic Ethernet connection issue reported in January, which affects modern motherboards featuring specific controllers.

In the meantime, Intel has shared a workaround that disables Energy Efficient Ethernet mode, and MSI has released an installer delivering the workaround. The issue has been narrowed down to energy-saving functionality present in the driver. Users can perform the workaround themselves or download the patch, but caution is advised when installing files from other brands. Intel continues to work on a comprehensive fix and hopes it can be resolved through a software or firmware update rather than requiring a hardware revision.

Intel’s update, reported by Chi11eddog, states it includes the mitigation of “disabling Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) at 1Gbps / 2.5 Gbps.” It is possible to accomplish this change yourself in Advanced Windows/ Linux driver settings. However, the downloaded patch may have a bit more refinement, as it seems to apply EEE at 100Mbps speeds still. MSI already posted the new patch.
