In January we already reported about 18-core Xeon processors in the pipeline by an ASRock goof. The Xeon E5-4600 v3 line of processors would get 10 models including a CPU with 18 cores and 36 threads!
It is now clear that Haswell-EX will follow along the same lines with a 22nm fab, a physically features 18 cores, 36 logical CPUs enabled with HyperThreading. These processors have a staggering 45 MB of L3 cache, DDR4 memory controller and 165W TDP . Intel will use this chip to for the Xeon E7 v3 family, which includes 8-core, 10-core, 12-core, 14-core, 16-core, and 18-core models. Clock speeds range between 1.90 GHz and 3.20 GHz as CPU World reports today:
Xeon E7-4800 v3 line will be comprised of E7-4809 v3, E7-4820 v3, E7-4830 v3 and E7-4850 v3 SKUs, that will have 8, 10, 12 and 14 cores respectively. Since each core comes with a 2.5MB slice of L3 cache, shared between all cores, the total size of L3 cache on the chips is going to range from 20 MB for the 8-core processor, and up to 35 MB for the 14-core one. The CPUs will operate at 1.9 GHz - 2.2 GHz depending on SKU, and will fit into 115 Watt power envelope. In addition to 4 SKUs, one of the documents mentions off-roadmap Xeon E7-4857 v3. If released, this CPU will have 12 cores, 140 Watt TDP, and it will be clocked at 2.5 GHz.
Xeon E7-8800 v3 series will have mostly 16- and 18-core models, with a couple of exceptions. The Xeon E7-8893 v3 will have 4 CPU cores, 3.2 GHz clock rate, and 140 Watt TDP. The E7-8891 v3 will have the number of cores increased to 10, and clock speed reduced to 2.8 GHz.
16-core Xeon E7 v3 models are E7-8860 v3 and E7-8867 v3. Clocked at at 2.2 GHz and 2.5 GHz, they are rated at 140W and 165W TDP. The documents also mention Xeon E7-8857 v3 SKU, that has identical specs to the E7-8867 v3.
Xeon E7-8870 v3, E7-8880 v3, E7-8880L v3 and E7-8890 v3 have 18 CPU cores and 45 MB of last level cache. Base frequencies of these models start at 2 GHz for E7-8880L v3, and go all the way up to 2.5 GHz for the E7-8890 v3. The low-power E7-8880L v3 has 115 Watt TDP, which translates to a bit over 6W per core. Other SKUs are rated at 140 Watt and 165 Watt TDP.
