An early specimen of the AMD Threadripper CPU, built with Zen4 cores, has appeared in the Chinese secondary market. This discovery provides an initial glimpse into what might be referred to as AMD's Storm Peak CPU, potentially a component of the upcoming Threadripper PRO series employing the Zen4 architecture.

It's worth noting that AMD hasn't launched these CPUs in the months since introducing their initial Zen4 CPUs for the general public. The disclosed information indicates the use of an SP6 socket for this particular processor. Even though it doesn't bear the Threadripper designation, the seller from China labels it accordingly. The provided image denotes an AMD OPN core with the identifier 100-00000454, which is expected to align with the future Threadripper PRO 7985WX SKU. Predictions suggest that this model might have 64 cores and 128 threads, analogous to the current leading model, the 5995WX.

The information confirms prior assumptions about the CPU having a default TDP of 350W, marking a considerable rise when juxtaposed with the Zen3-based series at 280W. Moreover, there are indications that AMD could introduce processors with even higher capabilities, possibly extending to 96 cores and 192 threads. Separate sources also hint at potential clock speeds maxing out at 5.1 GHz. The vendor confirms the operational status of the CPU, albeit indicating some traces of wear and tear. Nonetheless, there are arising doubts about its congruence with data-center platforms using the identical SP6 socket. Within this framework, compatibility is yet to be ascertained. Potential purchasers are advised to remain vigilant to prevent obtaining a CPU incompatible with the appropriate motherboard.

Speculation grows over AMD's forthcoming TRX50 chipset and platform launch, predicted to be compatible with the upcoming Threadripper 7000 series, slated for a release before the year concludes. This new platform is set to be congruent with the DDR5 memory benchmark and PCIe Gen5. Despite the surge of recent unofficial information disclosures, AMD hasn't made any public announcements regarding the Zen4 Threadripper series introduction.
