Oh I agree, it does not look that good... A 960 with a tripple fan cooler design? Overkill, but might have it's uses. A 960 with a backplate? Overkill? Backplate cooled with an active fan? Overkill? A small, high rpm spinning fan that's most likely louder than the three bigger ones up front? Overkill? Somehow I don't get why they make that card...

Also, that backside fan is over the rear of the card, not over the rear of the GPU. There might be the backside of some VRM's there, but they wouldn't need the fan, not with that cooling on the front side. Maybe a teardown of the card would shed some light on the reason.

Why did they put all this extra nonsense on something as pedestrian as a GTX960?

That Backplade fan has marketing gimmick written all over it. Also It makes it louder and has chance of failing.

funny i like the idea think it defo help with cooling depends on clocks might be crazy high

I also think it's overkill. And fugly beyond imagination.

One more fan and it would lift off.

well based from the pics it seems the back-fan just clip-on the backplate so user could simply unplug it, if not needed while overclocker might happy with extra stuff then why not just metal heatsink ? well i guess clip-on fans is more cheaper

Trying too hard to be different it seems... For overclocking, it looks nice at least.

Looks like the Inno3D iChill Herculez X4 Air Boss Ultra finally has some aesthetic competition!

The extra fan is obviously to help them blow the competition out of the water

Unfortunately it's got too few cores to really be kickass... and if you want those crazy clocks your best bet was liquid or LN2 cooling... also overkill for a 960...

I bet that rear fan is going to be a noisy little bugger since it is only 60mm and them smaller fans are generally louder at higher RPMs.

if that backside cooler is optional clip-on, it's not too bad. may be this card was high clocks or something.

15 years ago I machined two 20mmx20mm aluminium passive coolers down to a 10mmx10mm base and put them on the back of the two VSA 100 Chips of my Voodoo 5. Along with upgraded coolers on the front side they did wonders to those hot buggers. Backside Cooling is a fine thing, why active is beyond me though.

I kinda like the idea , but i do think that some kind of re-manufacturing it into the backplate rather than just sticking on top would have been much better . Maybe we will see more of this idea in the future with l.e.d lights on 🙂 i love lights on things , bling bling 🙂

Also the 3 fans that are part of the main cooler are overkill. Galax made a 3 fan cooler for the 750ti card which made no sense.
