Why would anyone want a 108MP camera on a phone? File size will be huge and quality improvement won't be noticeable. For reference 8k is 33.2MP, so this camera pictures could fill a larger than 16k TV. Why? What for? The smaller pixel size of the sensor will mean less lowlight performance, it's just dumb to go over 34MP (for now).

say hello to the world's least secure flagship phone. and i say that because that's a specification required for sale internally in China, aka the backdoor special. the usual access point is the SIM, but i guarantee there's also one with the modem when i go to China i buy a disposable phone and know it's not secure rather than risking MY phone on their networks

Since you can guarantee it care to provide proof? Is safe to say those things are getting under the microscope in hopes of finding anything at all ,no major news headlines ever break out at all.

Tin foil hat not needed. Backdoors are mandated in law by the Chinese government, just like all communications-related companies are required by law to turn over all data on their customers if requested to do so. Refusal is not an option, unless you like the idea of spending years in a work camp.

On topic - I think the sensor is co developed by Samsung as well so it will show up on their phones. Let's see all the brouhaha about Korean intelligence snooping over their versions instead of talking about the excitement these sensors bring. OT

But the West will NOT, have NOT, did NOT, and would NOT do the same... NSA remains silent on secret backdoors in popular tech https://reclaimthenet.org/nsa-remains-silent-on-secret-backdoors-in-popular-tech/ https://i.ytimg.com/vi/wM6-NSet0Uk/maxresdefault.jpg

Have a Xiaomi phone and dont care if they spy on me. I dont do banking from my phone, only from PC. If you are military or a banking exec or govt official or someone with a sensitive job that can be hurt by spying, pretty sure your org will provide you with a secure phone. But for the millions of ordinary users with non-sensitive data, no point in worrying over it.

you do not know even remotely what you are talking about plus i'm a professional in the tech industry. i wasn't even allowed to go to China until after 2000. i'm not some foaming at the mouth political type. we are talking about the most intrusive regime the world has ever seen which is not hyperbole. going outdoors, you are facially recognized and your legal status and sociability are analyzed within 30 seconds. the only respite is in the countryside where you are followed by the party apparatus if you're a foreigner OR NOT.

but you are forgetting the lessons China learned from Big Data. think Google. now think Alexa. all "smart" speakers/home devices/phones have microphones which are always on by default (elsewhere there is an option to turn off assistant - not in China. they use the "assistant" function to monitor all communications independently) they just search for keywords or phrases

The Chinese providers are for sure handing over everything the government requests in china , this is kind of given, considering how much data they gather on everyone ,Google , facebook ,every international carrier , secret services , Amazon and the list goes on and on ...china will not be the good kid ... What i am saying is in the hardware, if there where exploits they would have found em by now , now what ever goes to the mi cloud .... Yeah that for sure any Chinese government official can see em anytime i bet 😛. And if you are still kind of sceptical skip the models that use mediatek SOC and stick with the ones that use Snapdragon.

nope the snapdragon hardware is more secure, but the modem is not. plus Xiaomi has been shown to have software exploits embedded in OS and SIM the most pervasive is the exploit of the "assistant" functions whether it is Alexa, Siri, or what have you. they interface directly with the modem to access gov't registries that record keystrokes( or gestures, or searches).

Xiaomi phones officially sold outside of China don't have the same ROM. Phones should in the EU need to comply with the GDPR. They usually get updated a bit later, and they even shunt have the traditional ads that Xiaomi serves with other ROMs.
