I've actually never heard of this before.... well I've heard of wow it's a pretty old game so I guess this is like an expansion. Why would they count "sales"? I thought that wow was one of those never ending subscription things.

PR, this is most likely a message to shareholders.

Lets see what Cyberpunk does Today
Cyberpunk launches on multiple platforms, as such the numbers get diluted from a pure "PC only" launch.

Question, how do you count day one sales when I am sure 80% of their sales are from preorders?

This. And nothing else. With all due respect, Shadowlands isn't the biggest launch of this year at all.

I think just on the PS4 CP2077 will hit over 4M copies easy in 24-hours.

You need to buy the latest expansion on top of paying for monthly subscription. This is what they count as sales. Honestly, if it's really 3.7M it's impressive. I really thought that there were far fewer people still playing wow, especially the way it was during BFA.

Funny how they forgot to mention it was the worst expansion launch in history, I wasn't able to play it for over a week and had to transfer server with all my chars, and my game time wasn't refunded.

Thats pretty much how every single expansion or even patches are for this game.

Who? People still play WoW?
nope. they act like they enyoi it cause they can't say goodbye to their virtual characters and achievements that mean nothing at all except for the time they wasted on this crap., where loyal players get screwed over and over generation after generation.

You pay a sub and every 2 year an overhaul of the game. The number is much positive probably because the previous expansion was so bad, that people couldn't wait to change game and were hyped about it. The expansions is way better than the previous one. With all the preorders and expansions sold at launch i would like to know how many players are active right now...

An expansion for a game 16 years old can't be the biggest launch of the year. It can't possibly be right?

To be honest at least in EU, the servers weren't clogged, i could play from midnight till 3 am at launch with a very reasonable lag. Players were divided in groups of 50 to limit the obvious lag and overpopulation of the hype moment. I understand people may not like MMO, but playing the same game for years is not much different than playing for 3 months the new mmorpg that then fails or countless FPS or MOBA alternatives.

From pcgamer:
CD Projekt Red returns with an incredible setting undermined by an onslaught of bugs.

WoW has an amazing amount of players that return for just about every expansion and that keeps the sales high. This one was anticipated because the one before was not well received at all. WoW is a highly social game, no surprise it does well during a time when many are isolated. I bought it as usual, fun to hang with old friends while there isnt much else to do socially, safely. Been a on/off player since day one. Covid certainly has limited interactions with other people, so I try not to compund that by disappearing in to single player RPG's for weeks on end.

I dont believe these: ''Activision Reports''ยท Looks more like: '' Hey, everyones buying this game. You should too!!''

yeah, exactly.
