I never understood how game streaming worked. I mean, it's my understanding that you're PC is only receiving a compressed video and audio stream from some server out there, yeah? Wouldn't this introduce unplayable amounts of latency, especially for fast shooter games? Maybe I'm just getting old.

It works pretty well actually. It was free for a while if you bought a Shield console and every game I tried worked better than I expected. There will probably be too much latency for fighting games and some FPS's but overall it works well if you have a fast enough connection. Not something I would ever use but it's good for people without a decent gaming PC.

well, they have competition with Blade. the equivalent of owning an i-5 (4 core, 8 thread) with a gtx 1070. proprietary software and their own brand new server farms allege lag free service by limiting service to within a geographic zone for each server farm. right now they're setting up down the road from me (the closer to Nvidia to lure people away no doubt). time will tell, but a chromebook and a yearly sub is quite a bit less than a ryzen/1070 system. https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/1/4/16846046/blade-pc-game-streaming-shadow-cloud-computer-ces-2018
