@mbk1969 Eer, its been so long since I last used one. But you rip your game from the disc CD/DVD via rom drive and then mount the game to run virtually. Without the need to put the game disc into the rom drive to play..
You make ISO-file with disk image (ImgBurn) and then mount it by double clicking. No? https://www.howtogeek.com/207/mount-an-iso-image-in-windows-vista/

I don't understand what took them so long. This should've been done since the first release of Windows 7, or really even Vista.
They're trying to sweeten 11's appeal to get more ppl off Win 10. Expect other features with that intent in mind.

I use WinRAR it always works so why switch?
There are alternatives that are free, can take advantage of multi-core CPUs (not sure if RARs in general can be multi-threaded), support a wide variety of alternative (and better) compression formats, and don't nag you about a never-ending trial.

Hold on Lads. So I have just fitted a rom drive and I have ripped TR3 from the cd into a folder and it does not matter what I right click on nothing is coming up to mount the game virtually and nothing iso is showing either. Hmmm. 🙁 😕
I wonder if it depends on the Windows version. Like whether you're using Home vs Pro.

lol well they've got a lot of catching up to do with other OSes.

With Apple only supporting their own formats and Linux GUI archivers being terribly limited (Gnome) or bugged (KDE)?

I was talking about just features in general, though, my experience with Linux GUI archivers has been fine - I've tried a wide variety and most of them have all the features I really need. My only bug with Ark (KDE's native tool) is that it doesn't support file browser integration when you're reading from sshfs mounts, but that's a pretty oddly specific use-case and I never bothered to report the bug so I don't really have a right to complain.

Windows 10 can mount ISOs natively last I checked.
ISO's yes, but not MDS, IMG and what not. And half the time it refuses to mount an ISO because it claims it's corrupt while DEAMON Tools mounts it just fine.

Why install WinRAR when 7-zip exists? It's much more powerful, it works with all WinRAR formats and more, it's open source, and it's free!
Hard disagree. 7-zip UI is pure garbage and it has been slow. Always has been. RAR5 format is pretty incredible as well. Heck, I finally paid for 2 licences two-three months ago. BUUUUUUUUUUUUT WinRAR can be free as well if you decide to ignore the popups. And I can't believe it took this long for Microsoft to even get 7-zip support in... I can understand with WinRAR since it's proprietary and MS would have to basically have to have an agreement for inclusion. But I'm glad they have one.

Might wanna check your system because I have mounted over 10000 unique isos in the past 8 years with absolutely zero problems.

I regularly encounter lots of issues -it sometimes shows target file to be replaced as 0 bytes -it sometimes can't replace some files where it should have permission to do so (as Dolphin can delete them) -looks like Ark or KIO recently can screw up free space calculations and deny copying, even though space would be sufficient -it often failed to reliably replace symlinks with real files, either silently or with write error It's just a constantly buggy pita vs. 7-Zip/WinRAR on Windows.

@mbk1969 @Passus Yep, that's a result, terrific, really pleased about that. Just rip game to iso, right click and there it is in bold writing: MOUNT and when you go to my computer there is the virtual drive with a icon on of the game. Great stuff and much easier compared to the old days. 🙂 A couple of pictures then.

@vestibule @mbk1969 @TheDeeGee WinCDEmu 4.1 Using that one for ages, completely free (LGPL licence), it can mount ISO, CUE, NRG, MDS/MDF, CCD, IMG images, create images, installer or portable version and whatnot...

Wow great itll be just as useless (but noob friendly) as Windows zip integration, where you must leave the archive folder open to cut copy paste.
I am pretty sure I did copy files from with in a zip closed the zip and copied em outside of the zip numerous times ... I am not sure about cut though.
