I haven't clean installed since 1709 and I am always an insider skip ahead user. Never encountered a single problem so serious to lose something. Some apps incompatibility here and there. How Microsoft succeeded to ruin stable public release so many times? First spectre/meltdown patches with AMD cpus and now this with disappearing data for everyone? When will we hear about people getting fired from M$? Are they really irreplaceable? We have unemployment all over the world.

I've been waiting for 1809 for the updated DirectX and RT functions so now it looks like a longer wait.

Why? Use 7-zip and no harm.

Windows 10, since the initial release, is an OS as a service as it seems. Nothing remains the same, never meant to be stable. We can't blame them, everything happens for the money. They are begging for Office 365 users with Insiders thingy pushed there. How many office versions are really needed to be innovative? Microsoft took the down road in every application or operating system since 2007.

I m so sorry for pc in general. Performance and new hardware for graphic/gaming is pc world. But you can't really use the new hardware without the new software. So if you want updated directX now you have to update all the OS, that is kinda weird. If we could have a secured windows 7 with proper drivers for new hardware and updated directX that would be enough. a would pay a 5/$ even 10$ month for an operating system that do its job. But without crap.

Windows 7 here on heresy hardware (8700k), no file loss, no spying and no changes for the sake of change either.

I know it's bad, but who uses explorer to extract anyway (download 7-Zip and forget about it). However I suspect Microsoft will come empty handed as always for tomorrow's patch tuesday.

Hopefully they will fix all this serious problems before re-releasing 1809 again to the public. Previously i had installed 1809 but i was getting weird loss of fps in certain games and benchmarks 😏. Solution , i clean installed 1803 again and the numbers of the benchmarks went up and fps in those games went up. Microsoft should be more careful before releasing this new windows 10 versions ,as it seems like we are in Beta testing forever on windows 10 add infinitum ...

In addition, there reports that unpacking does not go well, both the original file disappears and the newly extracted files as well. just tried on my 1809 and absolutely no problem for me , all my zip file work perfectly with the built-in zip function of Windows I think this problem doesn't happen on all conf.

Some times ago when I was checking change notes for Win 10 insider Build, there was accompanied post for video which was like: "10 ways how to run tests in production environment without being fired." I think that's exactly what MS is doing.

That's not gonna change much. It is consequence of Game Mode, DWM and GPU scheduling changes. Maybe in long run they will make it work, but even 18252 has it utterly bad.

Im not big fan Linux architecture, but when you compare everything except games performance Linux is now much faster than Windows 10, regarding of last couple of Phoronix tests, they are doign really something bad.. I guess that to be MS developer in now days not have any prestige so their developers skills sucks..

Yeah, same talks since Win9x. Keep tradition alive. I love all editions starting with Win7 (skipped Win8 though, and went to Win8.1). Much more stable for me than WinXP. I forgot when I last saw a BSOD. And only problem in Win10 I witnessed in 1709 - glitching start menu.

So their QA is so abysmal that they don't even have functionality to monitor for unwanted changes to all files & folders in their test environment. You'd think that would be on their minimal checklist for an OS change/patch. So, in the context of releasing an OS update, let's implement a 'feature' that involves utilising the file system and not monitor, whatsoever, for unintended side effects involving that system's use. Unbelievable. This is elementary stuff within that context. I think we need to consign them to releasing all future 'updates' on good old fashioned physical media, just to have them properly engage with the QA dept. I remember well the cassettes and 5.25" discs of the 80's. I think QA was high on the agenda then.

I had exactly the same problem with FPS and same fix too

Pfft..minor issue...pc usage 101..if you trust windows to keep the integrity of your zip files, joke's on you.

Compared to Nadella, Charlie Steve Brown Ballmer was a titan.. Windows Insiders is the biggest crap ever mad by a software company.

Don't worry folks MICROSOFT is close to perfecting W10, just another 20 years and they will get it right. MICROSOFT's slogan, "Live life one patch at a time......" ha ha.

Microsoft has millions and millions of tester who are willing to pay to test for them. Us.

I'm finding this all pretty hilarious. Like seriously, this is like telling a kid to stop touching the stove and yet IMMEDIATELY after burning himself, he goes ahead and touches it again with his other hand.

You sure about that? MS is still "spying" on you if you use Windows 7, they're just not as transparent about it.

What's there to not like about the architecture? Practically every OS except Windows and OS/2 uses a Unix-like structure, including Linux and Mac. Do you mean you don't like how to operate it, as a user? Because that I can understand, though it is worth pointing out that there are a lot of varieties with very different user interfaces. Anyway yes, there is something seriously wrong with Windows' overall performance, however, it is worth pointing out that Linux distros like Clear are built specifically to be highly optimized and take advantage of all available instruction sets. When you compare a distro where the binaries are built with generic compatibility (so it'd work on something like a Core2, for example) then Linux still tends to have a performance lead over Windows but it's not quite so drastic. But... Clear Linux is a solid example of the true potential that CPUs have to offer that we're not getting. Even when comparing it to other distros, it can sometimes offer more than double the performance for the exact same program.
