Well its pretty obvious that Covid pushed more people become "gamers". There is so much propaganda to force you in this beta telemetry OS that none of these usually
newbie/inexperienced users are escaping. Heck your new pc has !FREE! win 10 even on 1.6ghz i5 base freq laptop pc that makes it crawl kek
but yea slap that a cheap ass fast SSD and your are good to go 😉.
Steam is reporting 96% are running windows 10 x64 despite 95% of its games are DX9 and perfectly fine playable on w7.
Numbers also increase because none is making dx12 games for 7. This stopped 3 years ago with WOW and thats it (why?)
They are brainwashing people that they need updates to be safe and they are hardcoding telemetry so deep in the OS that even hexediting .dll's can not disable.
The only version that is worth, only in matter of stability, from this crap OS is LTSC and that comes pre bundled with spyware too. I even wonder why this news title "Windows 10 runs on 1.3 billion devices" exists as a news on this site ...Oh w8 scroll a bit down voilà ! Oh scroll a tad bit more! Ok wat? I recently became a member but this site had more meaningfull news 10 years ago that I started monitoring it. Ok now you can call me a conspiracist and Ignore what I just wrote (;

Count in everyone that is using Ryzen and was forced to move to Windows 10 because of the instability of Windows 7. I was literally force to start using Windows 10. I hate it, of course. Windwows 7 is the best OS from Microsoft. It is a shame that the instability issues were never addressed.

Can't say i have had any real issues with W10, there was the whole "Bill Gates is watching you poo and selling it" stuff back in the day, but anti spybot solved that and W10 works for me with no issues, and i have VR HMDs and software on my PC which can be very flaky at times, but W10 still seems to work as intended for me anyway, so i can't really complain to be honest.

It's planned and forceful transfer to Windows 10. Everyone should remember that. Nobody was forced to move from Windows XP to Windows 7 on the other hand as they were both equally capable, with W7 being more stable and while providing newer DirceX API for the new games. And the new API really had enourmous visible improvements over the predecessor. The transfer of users from WXP to W7 was natural. I can not say that for W10. Facts. Everything that W10 can do, so can W7. Even DX12.
BUT, as a Ryzen user, I can confirm that I know nobody that has 100% stable Ryzen system on W7. So it is not that Microsoft forced me, but forceful change is not voluntarily. The irony is that they count me as W10, but I am only because I have no choice. I'd rather exchange this p*ece of c*ap for anything else with proper user interface and decent stability that wouldn't treat me as imbecile and tell me when I need updates or crash randomly or f-ck up the drivers of perfectly working hardware. Have you heard of users losing tons of personal data after Windows 10 updates? Of people that lose the ability to use their computer after an update? And if anyone says again that W10 is a good OS I can just reply - if you are OK to be treated as an imbecile than I can understand you.

After going through greater lengths to create a custom iso using WDS, and even with some policies applied, W10 still ignores some things and does what W10 does best, it's understandable why some still " ancient " W7. At work, I use W10 because it's a required OS. But it's slowly stepping on everyone toes, trashing and deleting users data after updates.
Windows 10 now runs on so many devices. It's a metric, but I'll say it.
This number wasn't achieved with a clean fight. Users were forced to using W10.
Speaking only for my personal computing, I abhore W10.
I use different distros on my own machines, I am able to do accomplish all my computing tasks quite nicely, thank you free and libre software.

You do admit that the telemetry was simple back then so I don't see why you're questioning it. Microsoft also still allows you to download free apps on their store without linking it to a mail account. And people have more sensitive information on their phones today than you think. Today people even have various bank/payment apps on their phones (which isn't great either since even Google doesn't guarantee more than three years of updates). And oh I forgot, facebook users complaining about Windows 10 is also a sight.
Google has made Android so reliant on their apps that the average joe won't bother trying to get by without their Play Store. The theoretical possibility is there but in practice it's a chore. You do know this.
Android is open source but only the enthusiasts care/bother with getting a custom ROM. And the only anti-telemetry ROM I have seen promoted when trying to be up to date is E, so I doubt the average joe knows of them. A possible risk here too that one can face if not checking beforehand, and I had happen for my father's phone, is that their phone might not have a custom ROM.
And ultimately, if you really wanted to feel safe with open source, you'd need to be qualified to check the code yourself.

Its important to note that most people don't use 10 because they like it, they use 10 because they are forced to and have no choice.
