No such thing as overkill
There is really no such thing as video performance overkill. If anything it makes your system last longer as it's performance envelope extends beyond current titles and technology into the next generation. Sure it will eventually be obsolete but will afforded you time to skip a few cycles before you need to think of what to get next.

agree, it's never a good idea to buy the 1st wave...
on other hand, pascal have real rough power despite not being as smart as AMD on fonctionality.
still few month to have my quadro at 0Euro in comptability... then maybe 🙂 (not GTX of course lol)...

Theoretical memory bandwidth is actually higher than the 980Ti due to the improved Gen 4 compression. Should reach about ~384gb/s in real world gaming.
I am curious to see if 4K performance is limited when overclocked and stuff though.

Even if these turn out to be insanely good I won't be buying (as tempting as it is) as I've decided not to buy a new gpu every year, for me it's no longer s priority to max game settings. At 1440p my 980 is still going strong. I'd much rather spend the money replacing my Dell monitor with a Gsync screen.
Still I look forward to the reviews, as I love reading about new tech even if I'm not going to buy. 🙂

Why do you automatically think 1 min after midnight is CET? Could be PST (NV HQ, Santa Clara, CA) in which case you would be up till morning. 🤓

Sticking with my WF 980 ti for a while still, we all know this is like the 680 midrange card branded as the new high end cause they have no competition - then later there will be full blown Pascal 1080 TI or Titan (XXX?) 🤓
Guessing it will be 20% faster then a Titan X / slight OC 980ti across the board, not enough for me to plunge directly into the new gen :P
Lets see what they have in store in 6 months or so, I can wait, not super hyped for the 1080 even though they want me to be :infinity:

To each there own really, but just the same as how the 1080 will/is dropping the price of the 980ti, the 1080 will also drop when the 1080ti/Polaris when gets released. If you're happy micro upgrading, all the power to you, you're good for the industry. I'm personally going AMD for my next gpu, I've been disappointed by NVidias business model.
Edit: I just realized you have a pair of 970, this doesn't apply to you, i'd upgrade too if I had those.
