I opened Steam up, looking forward to seeing what was available in the winter sale, but for some unknown reason; the store front page was flashing in and out. The only thing that comes to mind is that there was a new beta update yesterday - maybe that's the cause? 😕

Time has come ... to wear a hat... where have I put it?

I usually just go with SteamDB for it's additional sorting options and easier layout, nice to see the sale starting too whatever there might be to pick up. https://steamdb.info/sales/ Still mostly been doing backlog work and the current more recent games are having a bit of a time waiting on updates seeing what gets fixed though it's not always a porting disaster or bit too early Gaming As A Service (try again in a year.) might find something of interest. 🙂

I miss the old days. Flash sales that made you come back every 8 hours becsuse they might put a new game for 75% off, selling 12-packs of games for really cheap that you could gift to friends, and "quests" that could be redeemed for coupons and other games. That was when valve still made original games too like Left4Dead, Portal, TF2, HL2 ep2 and the constant rumors of ep3.. Sad what they became. I can't remember the last time I bought a game on steam, even for Steamworks games, because fanatical, humble bundle or green man gaming always have much better prices.

Picked up Final fantasy 15 for $17. Thats a lot of game for little money.

Red Dead Redemption 2 had a nice little discount (20% regular edition, 25% special edition thus barely landing under the 60 Euro price range.) though it might get better still later on in a separate sale and it sounds like there's still room for patches to improve things further. For the rest well there's about 30k titles on discount and even sorting out the indies there's a lot, probably some good deals for earlier released titles that would now be patched up a bit more (Or you know actually shipped in a state that didn't require quite as much patching afterwards which does still happen occasionally. 😛 ) though I don't have much in the way of suggestions. Month of expenses and gifts too so have to be a bit more selective anyways. EDIT: Sales strategies aside though I believe the Rockstar client version might have had a better deal initially too plus some extras easing people into using this software by providing some bonuses, not a bad pick but not the best deal either with that in mind. 🙂

Only thing stirred my interest was Titan Quest for 3,99€. I already have it on GOG, so probably I'll pass.

there's a sale and permanent €10 coupon on Epic Games Store right now, bringing RDR2 standard at €38. it doesn't matter where you buy it from you still need Rockstar client

That's pretty good, Steam's regional pricing has gotten worse too and yeah the Rockstar client has no workaround for now (Additional checks in the game code unlike GTA V and earlier from my understanding.) so regardless of where the game is bought from it's mostly integrated into the RGC instead of Steam or EGS. EDIT: On that note Rockstar really should throw in D3D11 into GTA IV and get Live out of there and fully replace it with RCG but I guess that's not happening. (D3D11 because CPU limits and not being mostly just single threaded and other D3D9 bottlenecks.) That's a side point though and about as likely as the first Red Dead Redemption getting ported (Might not be spaghetti Western but apparently it does feature spaghetti code or what it was.) but good to know about the price too especially there being a permanent 10 EUR off from the base price that actually stacks with the sales discount. 🙂

I can still remember when Steam sales were actually good...

Just a heads up, EGS is giving away a game each day until the end of the year. Also, a £10 coupon you can use on any game over £15. Assassin's creed Odyssey for £9.99 with the coupon, why not.

Titan Quest should be a mandatory purchase for anyone that doesn't have it.

And I was thinking I am the only guru here playing hack&slash substitutes for Diablo

Haven't bought a game since I've moved to Xbox Game Pass for PC. Lots of good titles that were in my Steam wish list were on Game Pass.

WTB games without Steam (or any other delivery mechanism for that matter). While I think Red Dead 2 is a great game, I wish RockStar would build a launcher which just does the DRM component of the game; in fact, I don't want anything other than patches delivered. Really, I don't want social functionality, offers or league tables. Those handful of games that I've bought that required steam, I've never played (like TombRaider and BioShock). I suspect it's time to find a no-CD patch or something, so I have something else to play.

You'll be back. You will quickly realise there aren't THAT many games on gamepass, not decent ones anyway. I had a go at it with the $2 for 2 months and that was enough to play all the games that existed on there that I was interested in.

^^^I have Ultimate gamepass unil 05/22 so steam will have quite a wait, but steam had a good run, and with 800 plus games on my account Valve can't be too sore as they got a nice chunk of change from me over the last 16 years, and MS are throwing games and free money at me monthly, so what is not to love about it. Lol
