Hey, that's a nice one =)
I like such technical issues and their explanations - helps to see a glimpse of how systems work.
I wonder though, how perverted someone might be to want to take down Steam?.. Glad they miserably failed again.

well... it look as previous one... 🙁 sad for them but maybe it's time to change of provider if they don't want to loose customers.

Nice nice.. cyber terror.
I have 1200+ games in steam.
If they are stolen my account and if I do not get back, i sue the Valve and i give back my full money!
I leave it up to the supreme court!!

Well the hackers need to get a life if u ask me , why bother with steam and us gamers when they could focus on taking down terrorists bank accounts and such and actual do some good in the world if they feel the need to do these attacks.

Seems like attacks on game networks are a new holiday tradition. This had insignificant impact, and affected only a tiny percentage of users. It's barely worth mentioning...

Totally stupid creatures who have nothing better to do in life besides trying to undermine the lives of others. Little people.

This wasn't "terror". Just good ol' negligence. 100% Valves own doing. You can sue them too in most countries for this. 🙂

And the drama with Steam accounts continue !
Someone in Russia changed this guy's Steam account, and he can't change it back :eek3:
On Christmas Day, hackers took down the popular online video gaming site Steam. As Steam fixed the problem, some sensitive information about users was accidentally exposed...

This DoS attack didn't take smarts nor was it in reality the proximate cause of the issue:
How it happened
Early Christmas morning (Pacific Standard Time), the Steam Store was the target of a DoS attack which prevented the serving of store pages to users. Attacks against the Steam Store, and Steam in general, are a regular occurrence that Valve handles both directly and with the help of partner companies, and typically do not impact Steam users. During the Christmas attack, traffic to the Steam store increased 2000% over the average traffic during the Steam Sale.
In response to this specific attack, caching rules managed by a Steam web caching partner were deployed in order to both minimize the impact on Steam Store servers and continue to route legitimate user traffic. During the second wave of this attack, a second caching configuration was deployed that incorrectly cached web traffic for authenticated users. This configuration error resulted in some users seeing Steam Store responses which were generated for other users. Incorrect Store responses varied from users seeing the front page of the Store displayed in the wrong language, to seeing the account page of another user.
Once this error was identified, the Steam Store was shut down and a new caching configuration was deployed. The Steam Store remained down until we had reviewed all caching configurations, and we received confirmation that the latest configurations had been deployed to all partner servers and that all cached data on edge servers had been purged.

My opinion:
It all depends on real motives and results.
Motives:
1. To show Valve Steam suck. - Good.
2. To show Valve Steam is insecure. - Good.
3. To steal private users information for use of selling private info, making information open or in any way harming the user instead of Valve. - Bad.
4. To make users not able to play on a certain day or days. - Bad.
5. For own satisfaction. - Bad.
6. To show world, that Steam is insecure. - Good.
7. To make Valve change its policies for the good of users. - Good.
If motives are good, but results are bad:
Users unable to play during holidays like Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year etc. - Good. "People should spend that time with their close ones."
Users loosing their privacy to bad hands. - Bad.
Users unable to play. - Acceptable
Users loosing their money in any way (Stolen accounts, virtual products or gifts etc...). - Bad. "Even though smarter people don't buy game items, game money, dlcs etc..."
