Bahahahahahahahahahaha What a joke. Even if it WAS priced reasonably, it's still a pointless piece of hardware. With hardware like that it won't even be able to play a respectable amount of games at 1080p. Pass.
Well if it was priced reasonably it would probably be around $350-400 which wouldn't be too bad for a HTPC with that form-factor. But yeah, I have no idea what they were thinking with that price.

The price is a killer. As others above, i´d buy some parts and build something small. Hell, i can buy a titan and call it a day...

What is this pos? It wont be able to play anything but some old crap and indie games.

This isn't actually Valve's Steam Box though, right? This is just Xi3's own 'console' that runs Big Picture Mode. It's been around in the news for a little while and we were all disappointed with the Steam Box but turned out the Piston is just another of Xi3's own machines.
That's actually a good point. It that sense it's nothing but Steam installed on one of their little boxes, which all look the same: http://www.xi3.com/ So maybe this is a failure for Xi3 and not the Steam Box.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1FK40qZUPw The new Xi3 Piston Console Trailer. I couldn't help but smirk at the ditch disks & download dozens of games to piston part considering how much this costs to upgrade the storage. Also funny is how they show loads of games looking great and running well (and clearly not on the Piston), when only 2 days ago we got to see this slideshow of Tomb Raider. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OwlwvKGfBiY#!

As the presenter said many times: They don't care... lol! Also I will have to say that we have seen this scenario many times in the past and most of them, they failed. What scenario? The scenario that when a successful product/company/services TRY to INVADE other product markets in an obvious pursuit of PROFIT, believing that they will be successful and expand their market range! I will not bother googling for the past failures(e.g NGage?), but the recent nVidia Shield? I'm sorry but it will fail imho, although I welcome the tech that it will evolve from it. I might say the same as OUYA but that looks promising for its price range. Microsoft, nVidia(Shield), ATi(ddr3 ram?), Nokia, Panasonic(Jungle?) etc etc. They tried to push products out of they product range and besides Microsoft with the XBox, most of them failed. Hard. So I come back to the current topic. What was wrong with Steam? Wasn't STEAM producing enough revenue? Or like everyone they get greedy and want more MONEY? Greed. Valve I suggest you stay to Steam and keep improving it and implementing it in our lives in different ways(digital ones) than pursuit of dominance. We have a long long way until "The one box to rule them all" is viable.

Someone also tell that to Google.

$1,750 for the 500gb top end version. Is it April 1st already 🙂 That is an awful lot of money for a weak arse product. Make it a little bit bigger, put an i5 in it with a 660m or AMD equivalent and charge 600 bucks and maybe you have a seller.

All I care about is Half Life 2 - Episode 3. To think; if Gabe put as much effort into making games than profit, we would have this game by now. No, he'd rather waste everyone's time by trying to put one of these under everyone's television. Goodbye Alyx Vance.

I think asking $1000 for this thing is more ridiculous than what Microsoft asked for their Surface.

Agreed. And people who will buy this PoS don't have brains either.

Indeed, even if it was $1000 and not $1750 for the 512gb "high end" version I'd still agree.

$1000 for a custom built, compact computer is ridiculous....even more ridiculous is that Xi3 thinks they're going to run into supply issues. I don't foresee any supply issues unless they only built 5-10 of these things....
$1000???? I am interested in seeing how this progresses, I won't be buying one at that price. Someone already said it's $250 max and that's the price I had in mind, an ATOM based Zotac Box is better value and probably more powerful. The Intel NUC looks like a winner too if that's the price of these.
This thing will smack around an Atom based Zotac box with little effort....

Saying that though, I guess this might be a clue as to what Valve could be doing with their Steam Box but heres hoping it's something different to the Xi3 and a lot less expensive.
No, this isn't the actual Valve SteamBox. This is another rendition of Xi3's own garbage systems.
Someone also tell that to Google.
Why? Google is determined that ChromeOS will magically become a great success...like Android, GMail, Google Apps and their own search engine have.

That was my point. I am sick of their branching out though. Scary thing is, the stuff they own isn't actually bad. Still.

Looks horrible that.

Looks horrible that.
Why? I think it's very well designed given the size it takes up.

I want that controller. If the Steambox comes with anything near the rumoured high end specs (unlike that Piston nonsense) then it could be a PC upgrade for me.

I'm pretty sure what Lightning linked isn't the Piston, it's the internal prototype. If you go to the link you can see that it has a Titan in it.
