I'd rather see end user devices get up to speed faster first. Who cares about AC/AD when most devices connecting to it don't even support it. Luckily I set up my home network so that the only Wireless device I have (my smartphone) actually does use it.

The 60 GHz band is a little pointles in a router. The typical use of wifi is for people to wirelessly connect to devices in different areas of the house. the 60 GHz band is blocked very easily, it is really only useful if using in the same room. An example of this is if the router is on one side of the room and the computer on another, or if you are using a device in the lounge room and having the router in the lounge room also.
In the description it does say the 60 Ghz is a single room solution, so at least they're not trying to hide that fact.

Every device in my house supports two stream AC, at least. The devices are solidly there for AC. For AD, something has to come first...It might as well be the routers. This would be excellent for me. I live in an apartment, so I don't want to run any cables. My router is across the room from my computer, with clear line of sight. Would love this router.

companies are always trying to promote higher speeds as somehow helping gaming. Its all about ping/latency not raw speed. Ive gamed perfectly on a 1 mbit connection thanks to having a single digit ping, moreover Ive used ac routers that had great throughput but were terrible for gaming because of slightly unstable firmware and/or heat issues. I just keep using my old model airport express, its only wireless n but it has gigabit Ethernet and has been rock solid just like linksys used to be way back when. Heck, I bet the wrt54g is still better for gaming than almost all of these overheating routers they have today.

To bad they didn't also announce a 60 GHz adapter to actually use this router feature...

The biggest problem with TP-LINK and min other router is there very features less GUI vs something like Asus which a lot very used full features

Just got newegg email about this was like there is new wifi standard? from what I read this has stard has shorter range then current 2.4/5ghz but is faster. but really what is the point of faster? most devices sitting right on top the router barely hit 100mbit Both the S5 and Iphone 6 i have dont even hit those speeds that close and at 20+ that drops sharply, I more interested in some thing that gona keep it speed at large distance. only I have the hits and passes those speeds is surface 3 so long as it with in 20 feet and my wired pc. for that price I rather get a AC88, unless you doing alot lan file transfer it just wasted speeds, most isp dont even hit 500mbit and if they do you probably pay huge premium

I was actually surprised by this. Congrats for the commercial department for not lying to the public. This is actually a rare thing.

My ISP is trialling 5 GB/s right now. http://www.gigaclear.com/gigaclear-trials-the-uks-first-5gbps-ultrafast-broadband-service-for-home-owners-and-businesses/

No open source firmware support, no buy.

I looked up the wired port specs just for curiosity, and they're all gigabit. So, it does say 60GHz will do up to 4600Mbit/s, but I'm not sure how you would connect at that speed unless it's to another 60GHz device. We all know there's some overhead, but even with that it will beat wired gigabit Ethernet. Nbase-T or cheap 10Gbase-T needs to come soon.

For those home owners that feel like running a small datacenter 🤓.

I doubt it's happening in the US anytime soon; given how much ISPs here like to milk things.
