This is quite impressive in terms of how early it recognised the emergency situation, but the video is a little misleading in as much as the dash cam is mounted centrally, the driver could potentially have a better view ahead of what is going on than the camera suggests as he is seated off to one side - in fact if I drive I try to position the car in the lane so I can see past the cars ahead as far ahead as possible rather than just staring blankly at the car in front of me - the position of the centrally mounted dash cam is 'blind' as it can't really see much past the first car in front, so the video is a little misleading on the prowess of the autodrive system to detect an impending accident versus the abilities of a human driver, it did spot it though (and in large part was able to react in time due to keeping a safe distance, unlike the car in front - in fact the car in front didn't even brake before he hit the vehicle, he was dopey to the extreme or looking at his smartphone!)!

Not so great news of Teslas being lit on fire in Amsterdam.... https://electrek.co/2018/01/15/tesla-vehicles-fire-vandalism/ Tesla gets the hate from the left, from the right, from big automakers, oil companies etc etc. Haters gonna hate i guess. Seems like very missdirected energy.
Yeah, I read about that, ridiculous. Some electric car hater put two Teslas on fire.

This is 2 years old news...I've seen so much videos of this already, did you run out of news to post? On another note, it's sad and unfortunate to see ones property being set on fire. I hope they catch and put the arsonists in jail.

Oh wow - Just noticed this happened in December 2016, I figured two weeks ago in December 2017 lol 🙂, it caught my attention and decided to post it. Taking it off the front page now.

Some of those are really lame, as in easy to spot, and the one at 1:30 isn't even an emergency situation of any sorts. The dashcams in those are like looking at the world through a 60 degree world, like playing a PC game at 60 FOV where you can't get any perspective or sense of what's happening, also the dash cams being grainy & getting blinded by changes from light to shadow, all of which makes it look more impressive than it is. As you can tell I'm not sold on the idea of self-driving cars!

I mean I don't think anyone is saying that these systems are capable of outperforming or replacing human drivers yet - so yeah, in these situations I'd expect the human to react appropriately. That being said in the case where the driver isn't paying attention or being as proactive at avoidance as they should be, its pretty cool to know that the system could handle it on a rather sophisticated level - determining the deacceleration of a vehicle several vehicles ahead. Even if that only amounts to a 20% reduction in frontal collision accidents I'd say it's a huge win.

Yes, it reduces the accidents associated with human error, but it could instead cause accidents due to machine error or lack of perception on behalf of the machine. And having a self-driving car will just mean handing over full control to the car - because even if the driver could intervene, then they wouldn't be "in-tune" with the car because they're not used to driving anymore, it would be a conscious intervention that just wouldn't be effective - if self driving cars are a thing, I think you have to rely on them 100% of the time & I don't like it. And on another note, that's not even considering that I think driving a car is an expression of freedom & self determination, and it's not about sitting back not being responsible for anything while you're chauffeured around like a brain dead impotent something or other! Sure, maybe you could use the time to do some work, but really how much time do we need to work in our lives, we've got to have some down time, thinking time, self-determination. Being driven around by a self driving car is abhorrent to me.

Don't these things just burn forever as well once they go up, that Electric car Hammond crashed on the Grand Tour kept going back up in flames days after it had meant to have been put out. As for the Autopilot 'avoiding' or acting prior to the crash, it stopped the car because it saw the cars in front slow down, nothing that any car fitted with radar guided cruise control / anti collision systems haven't been able to do for the last four to five years.

suppose I had too much to drink at a party, could I get in the backseat and tell it to drive me home? could I get in trouble? Grrrr, so many tough questions....:D

I read somewhere that the company that makes the "eyes" for this tesla vehicle is going to be the next "google" for buying their stock, I don't own any, if and when these vehicles go mainstream.

Already has happened. Also, having sex while on AP is popular* *(Warning) Car sex is inherently dangerous... I highly recommend it!
