Yeah, for having the SSD cache and upgrade to 10GB... I have one DS220+. But I think the next one will be a Asustor device.

It is, but it depend your need too, this one with Ryzen cost more than the one with mobile phone CPU, but is more able to master external units. If it is for home use the less expensive one can be enough to do the job.

Agreed, especially for a chip with such an old architecture. I'm sure the ARM or Intel options would make more sense than this.

Why not make your own? It's honestly pretty easy if you know how to work with OSes other than Windows (which I know you do).

Yeah, I have a TrueNAS Scale all set up. But sometimes I favour a already made setup.

It is pricey but I really like these devices for small business backup solutions. I can drop a 723+ in with two drives for like $650-700s have a really easy share and offsite C2 backup in like 10 minutes. For really small mom/pop clients it's super easy sale for me and gives them a great solution to keep their data safe. On top of that it offers a ton of additional features, at no cost, that I can usually get clients to make use of. I really think for the devices the cost is covering synology's software ecosystem which is extremely good.
