Only synologys own HDD and SDDs is supported and it uses a 5 year old cpu No thanks. Plus Synology do not provide DSM updates for very long

They are not perfect, neither they advertised to have the lastest and the greatest. They fill a gap and people buy their products for some reasons.

I'm a big fan of the Synology NAS's, using 3 on site and one off site for a seamless backup setup. For my business I just want reliability and a system that can work 24/7/365. Security is better than most other brands around the same price and DSM is easy to use for someone who isn't a networking expert. I tried my best to use the NAS as an active editing station but can't get past the latency issue and even 10GBE is a bit lacking for me, so I'm currently running 3 NVME drives in RAID 0 on my PC for crazy performance then the files are instantly synced to the NAS through Synology Drive for a passive backup and versioning. If something happened to my RAID 0, I can just wipe the drives, download Drive again, then re-sync all the files. Their biggest issue has been forcing the use of their custom firmware drives which are just rebranded from either Toshiba and the newest ones are Seagate. I think you can work around this in most cases though.
