New game for this company would be "Idiotel"...

At first I'm like "is Intel just screwing with us?" but after a second thought, I think this might be the only product that isn't an i9 that is "worth getting" (but not really) for X299. Think of it like this: The only good reason to get X299 is because of i9. The i7s are decent, but a little too expensive for temporary use. They're relatively bad compared to the i9s, and you're missing out a lot on the chipset's true potential when buying one; you're better off going with Broadwell-E. In other words, the i7s are definitely a bad decision. The i5, to me, is the dumbest product for X299, because it's not useful long-term, it is even more crippled than the i7s, and it's way overpriced for a temporary placeholder. Meanwhile, there's the i3: a product that is relatively cheap and "good enough" to get your PC set up and configured until the CPU you want is released. It is absolutely expected that this product is meant to be temporary. This, to me, should've been released before the other sub-i9 products. I think it's a little too late to have released it now. Don't get me wrong - this is still a stupid product. But of all the "placeholders", this is probably the most logical one to get.
The problem with this, is expecting that there will be new products that will be released on it, for better prices and etc. I'm not saying there won't, but there is nothing promised that there will be. And given Intels track record, you might, MIGHT get one more generation (if you can call them a generation) CPU on it, but you will probably not as well. x99 for instance, released in 2014 with these processors: Core i7-5820K 6c/12t 3.3 GHz $396 Core i7-5930K 6c/12t 3.5 GHz $550 Core i7-5960X 8c/16t 3.0 GHz $999 And if you had waited around to get something that was "more worth it", you would have waited until 2016, 2 years, for: Core i7-6800K 6c/12t 3.4 GHz $434 <--- Increase in price of $38 for not much faster processor, and 2 years later, AKA definitely didn't improve what was available for price. Core i7-6850K 6c/12t 3.6 GHz $617 <--- Increase in price of $67 for not much faster processor, and 2 years later, AKA definitely didn't improve what was available for price. Core i7-6900K 8c/16t 3.2 GHz $1089 <--- Increase in price of $99 for not much faster processor, and 2 years later, AKA definitely didn't improve what was available for price. Core i7-6950X 10c/20t 3.0 GHz $1723 <-- The only really new processor released that wasn't a slight bump in performance, and they decided to charge an arm and a leg for it, AKA definitely didn't improve in price. Now that AMD is back in the game, they could act differently, but i seriously doubt it. So personally, i wouldn't buy any processor on the x299 platform, no matter how cheap, because i wanted to "wait for better price/performance processors on the same platform"

imagine a celeron with full PCIe lane it would be a top pick for minner πŸ™‚ lol
Even if its a joke, but mining GPUs don't need any PCIe bandwidth. πŸ™‚

Solfaur:

I hope they make one of those Pentium Anniversary CPUs again for x299. πŸ™„
it wasn't a powerfull CPU but i get lot of fun with it... it would be the only reason for me to get a 2066 socket board πŸ™‚

for even more GPU... not bandwith πŸ™‚ (ok there is a limit but...)
Loophole35:

KLX only has 16 pci lanes.

there was Xeon in 2011v3 in 10c/20t, 12c/24t and 15c/30t... and it bring nothing new, exept a bit less expensive compared to the 10c/20t... not a big deal πŸ™

Oh man, AMD is falling way behind here. Come on Lisa Su, release that dual-core Threadripper already! πŸ˜›
Intel must of saw Nintendo selling classic nes circa '17 then decided it was a good idea to sell Pentium mmx.

Some xeons worked on it? that i did not know. But as you said, really not much of a difference, nothing to go "Oh, THIS is the processor i have been waiting for!" lol
