Because having a max refresh rate of 30Hz is insulting in 2019, 8K resolution be damned, good luck finding content to fill those pixels.

at this size i'd rather use several samsung walls.

it may take half a decade at best until 8k projectors are a -consumer- thing, based on recent history, 1080p took a freaking while, 4k around half that time if we count pixel shifting trickery i had some hope they would give up at 4k and start pushing motion quality instead, some phone screens at 90-120hz here and there, lack of any sensor big enough for 8k capture to facilitate it becoming mainstream, but oh no, every phone this year has a 48mp sensor, thanks sony... thats enough for 8k and some change for zoom, guess we will have to endure another decade of 30fps

Its a statement product. They know they are not going to sell many, but it puts them in the spotlight as a leading tech company making cutting edge products, namely TVs.

@AcidSnow aahhh the content BS again. what content do you watch on your FHD tv? cause outside a BD disc, anything (even streaming) isnt using full limits of 1080p@50 Mbit/60Hz. it gets upscaled to the screens res. same with 4K/8K screens. outside the fact its much harder to upscale SD/HD/FHD to 4K, than 4K to 8K, nor do ppl that spend +20K on a tv, tend to "rent dvds from blockbuster". and please read the specs again, 30Hz is @8K, not the tvs refresh. outside that higher refresh only helps thru inserting additional processing (between frames), not just because the screen refresh is higher.. already had a customer looking at availability and price, as he wants to replace a screen/projector with this. ever thought about the cost of replacing bulbs, cleaning/maintenance of projector etc, when running a theater? @EspHack partially caused by morons saying they want "true" movie theater experience and wanted the BD to have 24/25Hz, when at 50/60 we would have better motion, while only losing a little detail. but outside us few, the consumer wants 24/25, so why should a company do the opposite? and how many other companies dont care to do it? not like sony is the only one. same for the chips, where are all the other companies doing it? outside the fact i doubt its sonys fault alone, as the same sensor used in things like cams (still/video) doing 60Hz, so might be the phone maker..

@exodus1337 lol, if you wanna match that thv, you need a bit bigger model, still goes for about 60K as well, so its just 20K saved. not even talking about the add ons needed to make it work (tuner/source/speakers), or that you dont run that kind of equipment on a 200$ screen...
