M$ seems pretty confident about their new hardware. I wonder if the PS5 will be a lot less powerful. The XsX has a 300 Watt PSU.

Cant wait to hear the Sony is going the proprietary SSD too, because 1tb SSD isnt expensive enough, I am really curiosity about how much BC PS5 will have or will be only PS4 games Would love to be able to play entire "playstation" library on it instead of having to disconnected and reconnect system. I still use my PS3 and PS2 PS1 😱

I think most "next" gen consoles start off with 300watt power supplies, I just how both MS and Especially Sony dont use shoty PSU that cause horrid Coil whine (Looking at you PS4 PRO)

300w 80% plus = 240w actual consumption of the equipment.

Backward compatibility is also available today for selected titles on ps2 and ps1. I do not think you can insert DVDs in the new reader, so compatibility won't be for physical media. Even if you could insert they probably won t let you since the original hardware protection would not work.
I m happy if ps4 bc is 100% and on discs.

Shit is gonna get real if we get PS3 compatibility. 1, 2 and 4 should almost be expected. Also Sony has almost always been consumer friendly when it comes to the internal storage. I don’t expect to have that change.

It would from HW and SW perspective best generation ever.. but it would be still locked, one purpose device, without mods, multitasking, fps monitoring and other choices.. and i would be noisy.. so i still hope that more and more will be clever to use pc as main platform.. Im will buy this PS5 too, but only because of exclusive games, nothing more.
Nintendo Switch now make more sense.. there are some PC alternatives like GPD Win2, but there are too slow for modern games which were tuned for Switch, but you can get whole you Gog / Steam etc catalog of games without pay for same games premium price again..

While I have never owned gaming console, I must say that this time around M$ did ask AMD to deliver some very nice features on HW level.
(And I do not mean DX-R support.)
It will perform well above average PC today. And considering what they have there, maybe same logic could in time apply to Windows. Like ability to dedicate 1C/2T for OS+drivers+I/O.
Fast HW level compression of data is something we are not going to see soon on PC, yet it will deliver quite some improvements for XBox.

I really hope we get ps3 compatibility, I still own my ps3, but i'd be great all on one console... even better if it also gets to make use of the hardware, that would be perfect!

How many will have actual discs? If those games will be available via stores, that's what I hope for.
You can pirate them of course via web, but I doubt it will work this way "officially", so Sony will have to offer some form of a digital solution.

Sadly I think due to lack of protection, i think it might be store only, my big issue with this is older games like simpsons hit and run wont be able to be purchased. I do hope we get a choice, but i'm not going to hold my breath there, Though ps3 games should be fine disc wise, be more for ps1/2

Yeah for ps3 if sony makes an emulation i can bet they start from there as a starting point.

You still have a functioning PS3? Both mine are long dead. I bought the PS3 "Fat" just after release and it crapped out like a month out of warranty. Bought one of the newer models and that lasted a bit longer. Only console i bought since then has been the grossly under powered Switch, but only to play Xenoblade 2 and the upcoming Xenoblade Definitive Edition. I thought about getting some more games but they're stupid expensive, never go on sale, and i'd rather sell it and put the money towards an upgraded CPU/mem/mobo.... *oof*.... and waterblocks. ugg... gonna be expensive.
$499 is my guess. Sony fans are pretty hardcore and i doubt they'd pass on it at that price.
Just for the hell of it i looked up the PS4 Pro power supply and see that the OEM that makes them is Delta. They make good power supplies. You sure its the power supply making the noise?

Well now that i think about it, a Delta psu (not for console) with those specs costs over $100 from Delta. So they must have really cut corners to get the price down per unit, which would explain the coil noise.

did the ps4 pro come out at launch? the answer to your question is obviously no, this is not how console releases work. what would sony do in 3 years time, release the ps5 pro2?

I am predicting that the PS5 will be on par with the X series power wise, back compat wise it will run ps4 and pro games native as the new architecture will be just a way powerful ps4 pro, just like the X series is to the XBX, but they won't have any other bc because they already have a successful paywall bc program that is psnow, and i can't see them just giving that up when they are making cash from it, but they will have psvr 2 which is what i am more interested in, and hopefully they have vr controllers with actual thumb sticks, as for add ons i suspect Sony will also have their own proprietary memory expansion option in the form of ssd drives, and i suspect a new joppad which i hope either removes thst useless battery drain lightbar, or at least has the option to turn it off.
But whatever it is i will need both these consoles, which is annoying wallet wise. Lol
