Just turn it off and update manually via USB stick if or when you need to do so.

Ouch this sucks. Lucky for me that I own a smart Tv and its not connected to the internet because I have other devices that do the same thing as the TV.

sony to the rescue I have just finished talking with a rep from Sony about this issue that also effected my Sony Bravia KDL55W800C TV. They are aware of the problem and agreed to have the set serviced for me even after the 1 year warranty had expired. They are making an honest effort to fix the problem and I do not believe that bad-mouthing the company ever accomplishes anything. The contact number is 800-222-7669. Good luck!

Marshmallow update went smoothly (used a usb stick). Have to recalibrate the set since the same settings produce a darker picture.

I have the 55xd8599 here which is like a XBR55X850D with better motion and a UK tuner/Euro Sat Tuner. The latest Android 6 update has been bad for me with youtube app crashes ruining online competition and random reboots in the middle of gaming online too. I get the program guide has stopped working a lot too when I do not use it as a tv only as a monitor too. Sometimes HDMI refuses to detect input on switching after one of these services stop so I have to hold the power button until it reboots. Recently I discovered the developers menu which involves going to 'about and help' going down to the bottom then clicking select 7 times to make you a developer. Then you can go down a couple of option rows then all the way to the right to enter the dev menu. In the dev menu I turned off all background apps totally so none will run ever apart from the main app I'm running eg netflix. Also I set the screen to leave 1080p inputs as they are and don't sharpen them and upscale them as my external device or amp can already optionally do this to 1080p sources so I put 'best framerate' instead which has not totally solved but has limited to 1 occasion per week occurrences of stutter and picture breakup from using a 4:4:4 60hz 4k source like my 1080ti because although they fixed the external 4k DVR stuttering way back in Feb this year they sure didn't fix 4:4:4 stutters. Anyway now I've typed all this it should be searchable in google soon for other Bravia/Sony USA/UK customers with issues aqnd should cover the whole X800D X900D XD8000 XD9000 range with 2015 chipset in 2016 tvs.
