my hopes for the SE appart from some limitations raised and better animations is to provide a better base to get looking amazing compared to skyrim though that will most likely take time (first we'll need the script extender for the more serious mods, and the fallout 4 engine doesn't have a mod configuration menu like the skyrim MCM so that would probably need to be re-made as well if at all possible, then a ENB to turn off the basegame blurry stuff all bethesda games have and replace it with clarity or a good DOF not saying it's gonne be bad but... i disabled fallout 4's untill a enb offered me a good alternative DOF)
as someone who does spend and enjoys making his skyrim look amazing and run well ENB is fine (though i am packing a 980ti, though with you having a 1080 that cant be a problem, a enb setup for gameplay can enhance the graphics and not take to many resources in return. also enb provided actual stability fixes and performance improvements to skyrim via enboost so if your seriously pushing skyrim to the bleeding edge you should probably have dealt with ENB in some form for a benefit over the base game.
seems to me like you had a bad experience with enb's, if you still actively playing skyrim you should definetly give enboost a try as it actually solves issue's with skyrim's engine (ram or vram limitation one of those 2) and if your feeling quite adventurous vividian enb is a really well setup one that i'm currently using combined with purity but it's a vivid atmospheric setup might not be for everyone but manages to keep my setup confortably at 60 except for some grassy area's, my grass is set quite warlord

i have Skyrim Ultimate Edition(?), but can never finish the game lol. got lost real quick after the first dragon encounter, plus the sad graphic
let see if this version can make me play skrim again

Free upgrade for me and seeing I never used any environment or texture mods other then for character models and there textures, it will be welcome upgrade

Only a brand new Elder Scrolls game will draw me in. Regurgitating same stuff which already played countless hours and totally fatigued with will not do for me, no matter how improved the graphics are.

I played the base version, and then bought the legendary edition on a Steam sale but never played the DLCs.
I really hope this updated engine is less crash prone with savegames (had problems with Fallout 3 and Skryrim)

Wait a minute isn't that new edition supposed to use the fallout 4 engine ?
If yes then it will I hope be MUCH better than skyrim.
things that are obviously better in fallout 4 and unfixable in skyrim :
- better rain and weathers with wet effect on objects (weather mods are basically a change in screen color in skyrim)
- better overall lighting in interiors (hopefully not all because of level design)
- much better metallic aspect of weapons and armors
- volumetric fog or whatever
- god rays 😀 love them
I currently use 180+mods not counting 35Gbs of hand picked textures and tried all the ENBs and whatever, I'm hyped for this version if the better engine adds to the atmosphere in some places that looked very video-gamey.
You can safely play F4 with 100fps btw BUT take care not to go above it or it may bug the terminals and other stuff and you have to activate vsync I use this.
[ENGINE]
ForceVSync=true
VSyncSkipNumFrames=0
[LIMITER]
EnableFPSLimit=true
FPSLimit=98.0
I play skyrim like that too, house furniture is borderline poltergeist tough, you can hear it twitching ready to explode everywhere lol so if you are the kind of players that manually place items in your house 60fps is still the recommended maximum for you.
if you want cool looking soul gems here's a combo that may be for you (had to test every gem mod on nexus to find what I wanted, normal looking but HD and glowing filled soul gems)

another cool thing I found while tweaking skyrim, if you use an ENB rain, try
MotionStretch=0.01
MotionTransparency=0.01
it'll make the rain look like actual rain drops instead of falling lines, I have a lightboost hack monitor not sure how it'll look with motion blur 😉
skyrim 😀

It has been quite a while since I played Skyrim. Now I have something to do when I get home this evening.... besides what I should be doing that is.
