I don't get why Intel is selling it off. Intel's drives are some of the best things they make. But, perhaps SK Hynix can improve upon what Intel has done.

Perhaps Intel has made a breakthrough in 3D XPoint. However, they are keeping it hidden for the time being and instead first concentrate on selling off the NAND business for a decent price. Then they announce the new 2nd gen 3D XPoint tech that can compete in price with NAND but is otherwise far superior, making NAND next to obsolete.

Nand and ssd business seems to be one of the most rapid growth in demand with no slowing down for years to come , i wonder why intel wanted to get out of it . Edit:

The most obvious reason companies sell profit-generating IP is that they feel the need for money...;)
