Dropping the hamr then or so to say, ha ha. Something for the Steam library, or well if we're going to see more games using the triple-digit GB figure for install size it might be something to consider, once prices comes down to consumer levels a few years later that is. 😀 Platter amount and overall speed when compared against a SSD well that probably isn't going to look too good but as a storage unit it's nice to see HDD's still improving though yeah it's going to cost to go to double-digit TB sized drives for the average person. (So probably not going to be mainstream anytime soon, hopefully SSD prices can come down a bit in the meantime though in terms of pricing but I guess it depends on component shortage and such and other breakthroughs or potential problem areas.) ...Plenty of storage for all the telemetry collection going around these days too, though it does assist with troubleshoot and not just targeted ads and such so eh. (Can't really do too much about it either.) And on that note I wonder what sort of data center would need 20 TB stacks of HDD's, Youtube perhaps? Ha ha.

20tb for video storage is nothing Jonas, a very small drop in the ocean so to speak.

So is this where Intel's Optane would become something to actually consider?

Yeah I should have realized that. 4K movie playback support and higher for one thing, different encoding methods and support for various audio systems and now also HDR and more means a single movie can take up a lot of space and that's just some of the more basic features. I think Youtube actually demonstrated 8k playback a while back though the method relies on HTTP5 streaming little chunks at a time so the end user isn't too troubled with a huge download although they do still have that issue with stutter and playback pauses. (Depends on the browser though, Firefox is going a bit back and forth recently fixing something and then something else breaks but Youtube itself is also undergoing some changes such as the new layout switch.) Technology is advancing year after year, ISP's and digging all that fiber cable and other upgrades is lagging behind a bit but has also picked up again even for smaller towns here in Sweden though it's going to take a while before everyone is able to get a high-speed connection and the costs have also gone up lately due to how much bandwidth is being used.

I mean 20tb for personal storage would be awesome. I'd certainly buy if the price is right. I currently have 6tb + 500gb SSD and really need about double that lol. Down here in Australia we're also experiencing similar changes. Fibre is finally arriving in my town which is somewhat isolated, being 400km south of the most isolated capital city in the world, Perth. But it could take another 6 months before I see it in my home. It could also be next week. The NBN is very bad at telling us exactly what is going on.

Would be interesting to see someone look into this... i think optane was meant to help in household PC's not in massive business type storage... but would be interesting to see if there would be a gain to using optane, maybe the bigger size optane is being made for just that.
