I just want there next PCIe 4.0 drive to increase random IO. Its sad but many of the PCIe 4.0 drives are slower or not any faster at random IO which is the primary bottleneck on consumer SSD's.

Buy Optane pci-e 3.0 900p/905p or Optane pci-e 4.0 5800x. If you want increased random IO, you need to pay for it 😉 I'm using Optane 900p for OS, and I'm not downgrading the OS drive for a ssd any time soon 😉 This i my Optane 900p on my Intel computer: Same performance even it's almost full. That's the power of Optane 😀 Over 300MB/s 4k random read @ QD=1 is pretty good. Laughing at my WD Black sn850pro (85 MB/s on Ryzen 5950x) 😛 https://www.diskusjon.no/uploads/monthly_2021_03/740725026_Optane900pCDM.PNG.e436a6250954046f584d395de66d7802.PNG

^^This. Good PCIe 3.0 drives are as good as the 4.0 options, better than the early ones even, while costing half as much... 🙄

Yep! Adata sx8200pro pci-e 3.0 is beating most pci-e 4.0 m.2 ssd's. (not with the newest controllers like Phison E18 etc, but pretty much every one else.) Ssd's with Phison E18 controller has a very high premium price.... I bought 3x Optane 900p 480GB in late 2017. Pretty insane that OLD drives like that is rocking in 2021!

I have considered it since Optane is king in this regard. I want to see what the second gen PCIe 4 drives do. Samsung should have something out by end of the year which I suspect will improve random IO. Intel's p5800x is pretty damn awesome if it comes down in price to more 900p levels I might do it.

Thats a cool story . You need random IO performance increase to actually SEE(for daily user that is ) any performance difference . My OLD ADATA 8200 has like 2.5gigs seq performance , i hardly see any difference jumping from my OLD Crucial M4 🙂

What's your load time like in games with that?

I just want them to bring out some 4TB M.2 nvme drives.

Most game loadtime is cpubound so isn't much more to to for storage devices here
