Only 2600mAh of battery life? Well.... no thanks.

Yeah, battery life will suck. 2600mAh to power a 5.1" 1440 x 2560 screen? Hell no!

It would be interesting to see, if they have optimized TouchWiz - the version in the S5 had huge impact on performance...

It'll be a pentile type AMOLED no doubt which should take less power than a real resolution LCD except when displaying white. But still, that's way too low capacity for a battery. The S5 has a 2800mAh battery for a 5.1" 1920x1080 pentile screen and I thought they really stinged out on that one. I'd say it's just barely enough, barely, and that's only because I have all the radios but the essential one for receiving calls off 99% of the time. Personally I don't see a point to anything being above "1080p" pentile or maybe even real 720p for something that's around 5" or smaller. The pixels aren't visible unless you look for them on the S5, if you look at edges the pentil BS sleazes its way through and you can see the subpixels, particularly red against something that contrasts well against it.

My EVO 3D has 1800mAh battery and most power hungry screen in cellphone ever used. It lasts for 4 hours on max light and 8 on min light. If SG6 last 12 hours while wifi is on and provides very good performance with 8 cores at much higher clocks and renders 8 times more pixels on screen, then It is good performer. But I would modify android config to switch screen rendering to 1280x720 and decrease ppi. UI would stay same, lower load on CPU/GPU. I wonder if someone will fit cellphone with one of those screens which work well in strong exterior light and in such state need no back light. (eats just little bit more than LCD)

Non-replaceable battery and no microSD card. A first for Samsungs S lineup.

I'm glad I didn't wait for the S6. I love my S5.

Seems a bit gimmicky to me and lack of a microSD slot is disappointing. Maybe they are going for a less is more strategy, but in this case less is less imo. That said, I always found it weird the Nexus 7 had no MicroSD slot given that it was Asus' flagship but I think MicroSD expansion is more important on a phone so this is something of a deal breaker for me. And no removable battery? Also the materials used in these new models; give me a flat screen and plastic body any day of the week, this is going to be way more susceptible to damage. I can see the curved screen on the edge is going to be difficult to replace and expensive too.

Most people put cases on their phones, so what difference does it really make what material the phone is made out of? Can you really tell if the body is plastic or aluminum if it's got a rubber case on it? Non-removable battery = no go No SD card slot = no go I'm sure it's become obvious that I'm not a Samsung fan by any stretch of the imagination, but this is a new low point, even for them.... It's sad enough that Google removed the ability of Android to install apps on an SD Card.

It's a Samsung, if you so much as look at it wrong the screen will break! I've replaced several screens on phones that were in cases, probably in part because a lot of people go for those flip covers with the magnets in (which incidentally can also screw up the orientation sensor).

Which is weird because most people will tell you that the plastic construction that Samsung uses is relatively the most durable. Samsung claims that this phone is "50% stronger" then the competition. Whatever the hell that means. I've owned a S4 and Note 4 and honestly the worst part about both was always the software. It was a laggy bloated cluster****. Supposedly with Android 5 they fixed this but they also said that with every previous iteration. The quick charge (10 minutes for 4 hours of battery) sounds really good. And at 14nm that processor should use less power then the snapdragon 810 competition, not to mention the fact that it's faster as the 810 has throttling problems. UFS 2.0 is a pretty big gain too. As of right now I'm loving my 1+1. Customer support sucks but I haven't had a problem with the phone yet. $350 and I prefer it to the Note 4, which cost me $800 on T-Mobile.

The plastic is very forgiving but it's the crazy thin bezel around the screen; any impact to that and the screen is done. With the edge having a curve around screen I would think that it's going to be easier to break! Iphones are just as bad, but a nightmare to replace in comparison, Samsungs are so easy to work on. The quick charging sounds good if it works properly, charge time has been a big problem for recent Samsung tablets especially. With the SM-Txxx or SM-Pxxx the battery charges at roughly the same rate as it discharges so you really do end up spending the same amount of time charging the blasted thing as using it. I suppose it'll be a while before weak points in the design of these phones start to surface, as is always the way.

As a samsung user, I'm honestly disappointed by this unveiling (is that the right word?). I mean I expected the s6 edge's edges (lol) to have some more functionality. It really sounds like it's just a gimmick. Like with the note edge. I really long for something like a taskbar on one of those edges. I'm sick and tired of pressing the recent apps button every time I want to switch. The unremovable battery. Ok I can cope with that. A potential upside is that when your phone is stolen, the thief can't just pull the battery out so you couldn't track the device. If some discrete low-level tracking mechanisms could be active even when the phone is shut down, this could be a big plus. The inability to insert an sd card? What? Why would you handicap your phone in such a manner? I mean I understand that 32GB for the entry-level model is enough, AT LEAST FOR ME since I have a 16GB S5 and it's enough. But there are a lot of people that put a lot of stuff in their phones. No sd card really makes no sense to me. Overall I feel that they've missed the potential of that curved display. Disappointing.

The SoC is 14nm, and Super AMOLED already uses less power compared to LCD used in other devices.

No microSD is a no go for me. Not really worried about the non removable battery.

The battery life will probably be equivalent to the S5. The 14nm SoC isn't exactly 14nm, it's got a 20nm interconnect. We've seen the performance/power in the Exynos 5433. In most cases it comes in around the same as an 805, which is little higher then a S800/801 -- the die size should help but it's going to be offset by the clock jump to 2.1 and the more powerful GPU. I expect final power to come in about the same as the 801 in the S5. The QHD screen is same generation as the Note 4's which even at QHD actually used less power, given a variety of content, than the S5. So they should save some power there. The nicest change is the quick charge though. 10 Minutes of charging gives you 4 hours of battery life with the special charger.

That is what has me shaking my head. That's what always made the samsung galaxy phones better than an iphone in my mind. It's too bad they are moving away from this.

if they can do that 1440 x 2560 on 5 inch screen wth do we still not have 24" at such resolutions. One day i get around to get one of the S# series phones, maybe by time i do get one they will have better batteries that dont die in less then 8 hours

Really? I had an s2 for well over 2 years and still have my s4, I've dropped both of them dozens of times and never damaged either of them. I never even have a case for the s2, and I've just got some crappy $5 (literally) plastic case for the s4. Often when I dropped the s2, the back/battery would even fly off, but I'd just put it back together and everything would be fine. Honestly I've been really happy with the durability of samsung phones. That said, I probably won't get another samsung phone since they started locking down bootloaders and made installing custom roms such a pain. Not being able to remove the battery or add an sd card kinda just seals the deal.
