So long as the total bandwidth is going up, the chips aren't starved for more bandwidth, and prices go down (since chip complexity should decrease) it's not that bad if the bus width decreases. However... There does appear to be instances where GPUs are starved for bandwidth (at least lower-end models) and prices don't seem to be coming down much, if at all.
