that's actually a good idea nosir ...but i think the optane type nand would offset the cost saving by using the QLC no ? if that's the case might as well use mlc or tlc from the get go !
For now, likely true but advancements will be made. Just look at what 128GB SSDs cost at one point. The real gain you get from Optane cache is fault tolerance (cache is persistent) and 4KQ1T1 speed. NAND with DDR cache can't compare with either.

@nosirrahx i know i paid about 130 euros for 120 gb ssd somewhere in 2012 :P no regrets thought served me awesome ...and literally turned all my friends to ssds ... everyone that saw it in action next few days went and brought an ssd ... :P
