I just upgraded, yes upgraded, my kitchen computer to an FX 4100 from a Q6600 about a week ago. Old hardware will hopefully keep ticking. Would love to get a Ryzen 2xxx chip and build another computer just to test it out and tinker with it...

BuildeR2 ...? Since when are women allowed to use a computer...? And in the kitchen of all places? Go back to using the microwave as your TV please. /JOKE!!!

I do not have the answer to this question. No females around now, didn't grow up around any either. I try to have access to a computer in every room.

While ryzen multicore performance is great, their single core performance still lacks behind intel. Even until today, games still rely mostly on single core performance. Let's hope they improve on their single core performance this time around so I can confidently put an amd cpu back in my system on my next upgrade. Let's also hope they get things right with the pricing this time. Intel still wins in price/performance (at least here).

The difference in ipc is something like 10% at same frequency, which for all intents and purposes you can see if have fraps opened. The other difference comes from higher frequency with turbo (4.7 on kaby Lake vs 4.35 on 2700x) and also OS and compiler optimization which is an advantage for Intel. But in my opinion more relevant is the multi core performance which amd has over Intel

Not sure if serious or trolling. Most modern games use 4 cores and wile some are benefiting from 6, others use all 8 if available.

Just one word: DirectX 11.

I wonder if they are still using solder or have they switched to thermal goo like with the ryzen+vega APUs

And again AMD tracking Intel (on a long and winding road) - Iznogoud managed to come to the SandyBridge point along that road...but the Caliph just doesn't care:p https://goo.gl/Z1D1rL

Maybe it's time to try playing some newer games? I saw a pretty nice bump going from an i5 6600K@4.3ghz to my R5 1600@stock in nearly every game I play and I don't play anything particularly new. Most of my games are 5+ years old.

Okay I guess I was wrong. I play Anyway I highly doubt I'd see a boost at 4k since my gpu is the limiting factor.

Unless you play games staring at an FPS counter, the difference between Intel and AMD is completely unnoticeable in any game as long as your graphics card can handle the graphics settings. Personally, I tried gaming with an FPS counter on screen. I've found it really degrades the level of enjoyment that a game can provide.

I just have the fps showing and nothing else. I think if I always had multiple statistics showing like cpu usage....etc then it would get a little intrusive. For some reason I feel more comfortable having it if that makes any sense.

Actually, it makes no sense to me. For years, I gamed with an OSD showing what I considered to be "valuable information". FPS, GPU and CPU temperature. I found it distracted from actually enjoying the games I was playing. Once I got away from the OSDs, I found those same games to be far more enjoyable. When I install a game now, I choose the highest quality preset and then manually adjust settings as I see anomalies in the game. As long as the gameplay is smooth, the framerate makes no difference.
