To me this would only be a good idea if they were actually capable iGPU parts. Something more in line with an RX570/580/GTX1060, and DDR5 will bring a huge bandwidth boost for any iGPU that can access it. I think removing the iGPU in the first place on Ryzen was a good idea, it allowed them more space on the substrate for more chiplets and didn't bring the headache of having to include an iGPU chiplet that more than likely barely anyone would use on such high end CPU's. If you are buying a 5950X are you also going to be using the iGPU? More than likely not your going to have a dedicated GPU in your system. Sure they are ideal to have in troubleshooting dedicated GPU issues. And AMD could of done a better job of naming/marketing their lower end APU chips.

If it's anything like my Renoir laptop, these will be good for light gaming and more than enough for the average PC user. For an enthusiast, it's "nice to have" as a backup but not needed for most.

Imho there is more chance of needing the igpu on a 5950x rather than on a 5600x, if you are doing something that is cpubound and is not a game, a gpu is just a burden. Of course gamers have theyr own needs.

You forget that some games can make use of the additional iGPU as a multi GPU setup. Other thing, that crossed my mind a few times, is the fact that we are adding vector units to all CPUs, when you have a integrated GPU that has all that and then some. I would bet a more closed integrated IGPU could boost/offset most of the multimedia and AI workload.

wrong. paying $20 extra for a igpu sku was probably the best value you're gonna get these days out of any piece of hardware. if you're between cards,or want to troubleshoot,or most importantly - don't want to play games,you're getting video output for pennies.compare what the cheapest,new dedicated video card that'll let you display desktop costs in comparison - three times as much before the shortage. I used igpus a lot in my time of building computers.the only reason why I got a non-igpu sku this time is that I'm keeping this 1070 after I get a proper card. I had my r9 290 trix card up for rma twice,each time took a month.then it allows you to sell your old gpu before new ones drop and still ber able to use the pc.having an igpu for extra few bucks is very,very useful. not to mention the whole office/work branch that amd just let intel take cause they got a basic video output on their celerons/pentiums/i3s

Systems that use the iGPU as a boost have almost always been shown as slower than not bothering. Personally I think it's a waste of die space, never really understood why intel put one in the higher end i7 and i9 desktops. If you don't want a powerful GPU then there are plenty of passive basic cards for under £50.

probably can't pair a weak and a strong GPU... but a weak and mid CPU might be a decent pair. It all depends on software implementation tho.. and that never had any decent track record.

On Ryzen when you put an GPU in it there is the main PCIe X16 that work at X8, so they need more PCIe lane to put them on all the CPU range... impossible on AM4. On AM5 it seem to be possible. Good point.

yes, all the G and GE produced on AM4 are like that, they use 8 PCIe lane to communicate with the CPU part, so whenever you use it or not there is 8 missing for the physical PCIe x16 port and so it work at X8. Same logic for the Athlon G or GE but this time with half of the PCIe lane as base, so the integrated graphic use 4 PCIe, and it left only 4 to the physical PCIe x16 that work in this case at X4, (and the M2 X4 that work at X2 in this case). Also as said, AMD really chunk cache in 6 and 8 core with APU to make space on the die for the graphic part... BTW hilbert will you test the Ryzen 3 4000G in box line?

Excellent news! Back when I had R9 290 and when not playing demanding 3d games, I used to switch to Intel HD Graphics 4600, shaving up to 40 watts depending on the task. Like I was human Nvidia Optimus duh,.. Also iGPU saved my butt more than a few times. This firmly puts AMD on my purchase list. I am not going anywhere without iGPU.

I disagree - GPUs tend to have larger dies than CPUs (yes, I'm including iGPUs here too) and there's already a massive shortage. Considering a pretty significant percentage of the market doesn't need an iGPU, that's a lot of wasted product that we're all paying extra for. The shortage isn't going to end any time soon.

depends on the office work but if you are talking about general every day office work then sure Intel has got this market in the palm of their hand. But it's not like AMD hasn't had plenty of APU's on offer that would be perfectly fine doing the same tasks. The A-series APU's for the time were great for what they offered, then we have the Athlon GE, and now Ryzen APU's have had the 2000, 3000, and currently 4000 (OEM) series. It's not like AMD hasn't had something on offer at the lower end that would work perfectly fine within a general office environment, its like I said in my previous post AMD have virtually zero marketing when it comes to day to day people. Intel have their signature bing bong tune and their logo at the end of every DELL tv/radio advert. Here in the UK we have stores called CURRYS/PCWORLD and every advert from them I see has the Intel branding. Other than online and some social media I never see any AMD adverts or branding outside of youtube videos and tech forums like this one. This is something AMD has too address, I think them making the 4000 series OEM only was an attempt to please system sellers.

Price is only going to rise if there was a igpu in every cpu. Just look at 4750g and 5700g is way overpriced for what it is. You can actually get stronger desktop cpu without igpu aka 5800x.
