Jobs The better technology gets, the fewer jobs available. Seems to be the direction of the world lately...

This is the ugly side of capitalism. Intel doesn't "need" to cut any jobs. They want to cut jobs to please small minded and greedy shareholders. In 2015 Intel had full year revenue of 55.7 billion with net income of 11.7 billion. Even if they cut 1000 jobs at 150k per job that is a liability of 150 million which reduces net income by less than 2%. https://newsroom.intel.com/news-releases/intel-reports-record-full-year-revenue-of-55-9-billion-generates-net-income-of-11-7-billion-up-22-percent-year-over-year/

OK, without capitalism you could kiss that computer you own goodbye because it absolutely would not exist. And you could forget all of the product choices you now have because they would not exist, either. Capitalism produces all of that--the "one size fits all" mentality produces nothing at all except government bureaucracy, oversight, and taxation. It's death on technology advance. Intel lays off as many as 10,000 people sometimes...that always makes news. What never makes news, however, is when they hire on 10,000 people...which they often do, too. Some folks today have a very immature, short-sighted view of things. The idiot mainstream press, and the "1% protestors" will produce absolutely nothing of worth for anyone, that's for sure...;)

Having an x86 monopoly sure is tough... Should we start a Patreon for Intel? But there's nothing worse than companies keeping useless workers on payroll when the good, hardworking ones do all the work. But there are various reasons profitable companies do this, none of which involve just being greedy d**ks.

Don't believe everything brought to you by your local propaganda machine. Soviets went from peasant society to first man in the space in the span of 40 years. Forty! 🙂

That's the mouth breather mantra right there. Your response didn't even read (or at least understand) what I wrote. I wrote "the ugly side of capitalism". Capitalism is the best and most historically successful system possible, but pushed to extremes becomes ugly and fails on a micro level. The answer is moderation, not devastation for 11.7 vs 11.55 billion in short term net income. Businesses venturing down the ugly path don't think long term, they think in the moment to please the loudest temper tantrum-holding shareholder for tiny short term gains in lieu of long term viability.

Man I'm so glad I decided to change up my track in college. I was heading for processor design. After learning how little room there is in that field, I switched to embedded systems. This just enforces my decision.

Some skills get automated. The automation creates new jobs of a different nature. One needs to adapt to the changing landscape or get passed up. It is still survival of the fittest. New skills will be considered valuable in the workplace. Before just my knowledge in Excel opened doors that are closed now. Whining and complaining gets one nowhere fast. Intel needs to make inroads into areas senior management thinks the market is moving to. That means that knowledge that was once deemed valuable is no longer as valuable. May even mean that some specialized skills have been relegated to the annals of history. It is just life. Do any kids have a paper route anymore? What happened to the milkman? It was weird, when I showed up for an interview at Oroweat, there was a picture hanging on the wall of this one hallway. The picture was of a yellow Helms Bakery delivery truck. Told the Controller that I remembered the Helms Bakery truck driving down the street where we had lived. It eventually drove by less and less. The Controller basically said on the spot: the job is yours. Helms Bakery evolved into Oroweat. Never had to buy bread the two years I was there. Was at Oroweat when Philip Morris was to owner. Why bring this up. Because it showcases how when the landscape changes, new opportunities are created. Those best prepared to take advantage of the changes prosper.

during cold war on red side it was the same as you, just different method of governing... technology were the same (and even coop with west side...). now that is over, we can said it was only the name changing. (btw the father of capitalism is K Marx)

I agree that laying off employees is bad, especially in big numbers and its bad enough already for someone to loose their job, especially if it's supporting them and their family, but that's how sometimes business go. Get in some Entrepreneur shoes and lets say you have 5 companies in different industries. One company has run its course. It's just not needed or profitable anymore and its either closed down or bankrupted or whatever. Unfortunately what can you do for the people employed by that failed company except for some compensation, recommendation, help if possible and other things?

There's a good side to capitalism? It's responsible for most of the world's problems and untold countless deaths.. and yet it still continues. If we removed capitalism I think you'd be surprised at just how many issues, destruction and general unhappiness would be completely removed from the world. The impact of doing so would literally be the start of a new heaven like era.

Yeah but Russia isn't exactly a good example of a developed nation. The vast majority of it is still "developing" tier.

How easy it is to sit comfortably in an environment built on the backs of the very same things you oppose.

I wish we all could leave in a peaceful world where everyone is happy and people help other people in need when they finish their productive daily work/errands, plant more trees and improve the environment and use their free time more for the better of mankind instead of selfish reasons or for fighting each other and playing video games all day and spent most of their time thinking ways to f*ck someone else life. Unfortunately we don't. There always will bad and good in this world. It depends on which side everyone supports more.
