Lets see what they can do Internationally, i do live in Chile in here the steam deck is just a joke, while in the US the cheapest option cost 400 usd in here it cost 670 usd, i get is not the same market and taxes and stuff but that price make it irrelevant, if i can find the cheap Ally for 650 USD (even 700) in Chile it will be a super win, but my hope level is really low.

There's a lot of news going around about Asus these days, but this one ain't the biggest story. Asus gonna Asus.

this is basically just a new form factor for a laptop, esp. given that it's running win11. the fact that you can have nice mobile gpu's as well makes this a rather unusual htpc as well as a killer gaming rig w/ that 4090m (4080 equivalent).

I got my pre order in, been considering a handheld for a while, I was going to get a steam deck but with the 120hz 500nit display and the sheer power of this thing and the fact it's not tied to steam I think it's more my cup of tea. I like to tinker with things and since this is running windows 11 it's going to give me a lot more options to play around with.

As good as it may be, I wont touch anything ASUS anymore for quite a while after what they have done lately.

yeah and it kinda hurts as before they were good enough to take quality and cust. service as a given. and being in electronics myself i can only say it seems like someone from a different background is now running the company (like Boeing post-Seattle). the mindset to have an utter lack of coherence in an upscale brand (for a brand that counts on upscale appeal) is simply baffling. the more up-market you go, the more service is important. you can see the most obvious aspect of this in the auto industry where luxury brands long associated with high maintenance fees are offering free maintenance as an inticement. and with this new generation of chipsets it looks like the company to benefit from Asus' failings will be Gigabyte and to a lesser extent MSI. for Gig this is an almost 180 degree turn from my opinion of them after years of changing spec post-release and flimsy 5 and 6 layer pcbs

when your boards are 700$ you damn well better support your product and not give some BS that the "bios" should fix the problem but even it does you void your warrenty and apparntly the beta bios where supposed to didnt fix the issue and still threw way to much voltage at the soc

Asus cannot void the warranty via a description on a support page, any code released that can be applied to a product is receives and requires that the warranty remains in tact, and Magnuson–Moss comes in to play anyway

Asus is just being silly at this point.

If you are informed enough or want to pursue it legally, yes, they can suck a big one. But then how many consumers are going to take what they posted at face value, probably the majority. Telling someone you will take a right that they are granted by law is downright criminal, on intent alone. We, as consumers, have to signal that this is over the line. Asus has to be boycotted, on principle.

For ÂŁ700 i would expect nothing less than someone from Asus to personally come to my door if i was having issues with it. Lol

eh i keep hearing nightmares stories about dealing with asus, I have never had to personal have to deal with them, on any of Boards i bought or my monitors. But I Dont think the asus I know from years (decade or more ) back are same one that is known now. $700 for portable device gaming or not, is not something I pay, I wont even pay half that for new phone. I am anything but the target audience of asus. most there MB there days way to pricey

for some people who game this is a worthwhile upgrade if they're playing on a five year old or older system. not me or most on this thread but say you're running 8th gen Intel or 1st gen ryzen and you don't do productivity - this is correctly priced if insane to a desktop user. but for a user of gaming laptops it's a horse of a different color. these will sell, if only for a one-up over steam deck users.

A lot of stuff needs to be solved on the sofware side to make this viable in my opinion.

Just in time for Nintendo to deliver the perfect game ever made with perfect scores on the Nintendo Switch OLED. Good luck...

Considering most people who remotely care about quality will be emulating it to get better and more stable frame rates, higher resolutions, texture packs, etc, etc, it's not a detriment to the Ally's launch. Even the world's 7th most popular Linus, who bought the physical game, said he won't be playing it on his Switch (meaning he'll emulate it on his Steam Deck for a superior experience). A 7 year old handheld console that was 2 generations outdated at launch... I'm pretty surprised it's lasted as long as it has, even with ant resolutions and games dropping to 10 fps.
